#GivingTuesday Is Coming — Let’s Stop Hunger Now

28 Comments/ 587/ 1

This #GivingTuesday post has been sponsored by Stop Hunger Now in conjunction with the NC Blogger Network.stophungernow

If you know anything about me you know that I am passionate about giving back whenever I can.  I do Comments for a Cause here on the blog monthly for just that reason.  I have often said it is the best thing that I could do with It’s Just Life.  Being able to highlight a worthy cause each month and make a donation has opened both my eyes and the eyes of my readers to many different charities.  It’s been a blessing to open not only my heart but my pocketbook as well.

Today I am thrilled to join with my NC Blogger Network to help bring some attention and focus on a wonderful non-profit.  Stop Hunger Now, based in Raleigh, North Carolina, has one vision: a world without hunger.  What do they do? The group operates meal packaging programs at 20 cities in the U.S. and in South Africa, Malaysia, India, Italy, Peru and the Philippines. With 500,000 volunteers worldwide, they’ve distributed 295,539,817 meals in 74 countries. Over 89% of the contributions they receive go towards their programs.

Stop Hunger Now was founded in 1998 by United Methodist pastor Ray Buchanan. As a former Marine, Mr. Buchanan realized what an important role teamwork plays in any endeavor.  He has devoted his life to making a difference, giving back in all ways and doing all things possible to make the world a better place. With a focus on a meal feeding program Mr. Buchanan’s goal of eradicating hunger is moving from a vision to a reality.

#GivingTuesday is a day set aside on November 29, 2016 as a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration.   Last year over 700,000 people participated in the #GivingTuesday movement by donating $116,000,000 from 70 countries. Stop Hunger Now is hoping to be one of those organizations that is supported on #GivingTuesday in 2016.

Hunger is real.  If you have not experienced hunger in your lifetime you are fortunate.

*Approximately 792.5 million people in the world do not get the food they need to live a healthy life. That is nearly one out of every nine people on earth. That figure is down 167 million over the past decade and is 216 million less than in 1990-1992. 2016 FAO Stats

*Nearly 50 percent of people living in extreme poverty are 18 years old or younger. Source: UNICEF: Progress for Children:  Beyond Averages: Learning from the MDGS

*Out of a world population of 7 billion, 2 billion people suffer from some form of micronutrient deficiency. Source: IFPRI, Global Nutrition Report 2016

Those statistics are pretty shocking and disheartening but with YOUR help we can work towards stopping hunger in our world.
