Gone Fishin’ For Missions

2 Comments/ 1649/ 0

Crazy for Missions

My good friends (and former co-workers) have gone a little crazy!  Blame it on the Carolina heat or the poor air quality from the volcanic ash in Iceland but they are staging an interesting sit in of sorts—maybe it is more accurately a “sit on” since they have vowed to spend 48 hours on the roof of the church !   Yep—that’s them in the picture above—looking over the edge!  Teresa is Director of Family Ministries and Jen is Director of Youth Ministries ( and a bunch more fancy stuff that I don’t know her official title) at Epworth UMC in Concord, NC.   They are both so mission oriented and love to tell others about the great things that they are blessed to be a part of and want to share that with the world…..so their plan is to spend 48 hours on the roof of the church to help promote and raise money for the various mission trips that the church supports.  The 3 main ones they support are trips to Mexico (Samaritan’s Purse , Sandra’s House and also this year handing out shoes to kids!!!  ), Carolina Cross Connection where teams go to help renovate houses, build ramps and a lot of other fun stuff, and Hinton Rural Life Center.   (Websites to follow at end of blog post!)

So, anyway, check out their posts if you are a Facebook follower at

Old Girls in Low Cotton

This short book was one that looked like it would be a fun read. I honestly did not enjoy it all that much---it was a lot of characters bickering and while some of the writing was witty and funny it was not that kind of book that made m...

I loved this book! It had my interest from the very first page and was my "airplane" book on a recent trip. Author Mary Kubica created believable and interesting characters that the reader learned to identify with and care about. Mi...

All the Light We Cannot See

This is quite a book! I had it recommended to me by several people and while I thought it might be a little dark and depressing it made me have a better understanding of what life in this time period was like. The strength of the huma...

An Abundance of Katherines

Another great book by John Green. I have become a huge fan of John Green since my reading of A Fault in our Stars and this book was another that did not disappoint me at all. It was a story of a child prodigy, a lot of anagrams, and a b...
