Humpbacks Galore

1 Comment/ 1621/ 0

On Monday we ventured out a ways to go find some whales! We were told that there were not many around the Halifax area but since that was one thing on our list of things to do we were willing to make the 4 1/2 hour drive to go see some!!! We were NOT disappointed at all and this was probably the highlight of the trip for me! We found a great company to hook up with Brier Island Whale and Seabird Cruises and took the 1:30 cruise out of Brier Island in order to see some of the amazing creatures that live and feed there. We had a fabulous crew and the ship was piloted by Harold who has 26 years of experience working with whales. The Mega Nova boat that we took doubles as a lobster boat when it is not whale watching season so he does that in the other part of the year. Pascale and Shelley provided awesome information along the way and we totally enjoyed our cruise.

One thing—whales have horrible breath! I guess it comes from eating a ton of krill a day!!! We actually could smell it when they came close to the boat which was pretty amazing! These are some of pictures that I took but Chris took a lot of great ones that I may post separately. If you go to the Brier Island Whale Watching website you will see a lot of fabulous shots that they have taken and have on their blog. It is amazing to me that these creatures come this close to the boats but then I guess they are just happy to be on display!!! Hopefully the link will work so you can go to their website —been having trouble with that lately on this new theme but if it doesn’t work go down on the right hand side to the Blogroll and find their link there and click. Amazing company and had to give them a shout out as they were simply wonderful. We had the most beautiful weather and we were prepared for cold and rainy and we were hot and sweaty instead!!!

Hope you don’t get tired of the pics–there are a lot of them!!!
