It’s All About the Young Women – Comments for a Cause

22 Comments/ 513/ 1

Happy July 1st to each and every one of you. Today is a new month so it means Comments for a Cause day on It’s Just Life. I always get excited to tally up the results for the month, share our donation total and announce the new cause for the coming month. So let’s get on with it, shall we?

Our cause for the month of June was Friends of DuPont Forest. I shared in my June post (you can click here to read it) how Chris and I love to spend time in DuPont Forest. It is so close to us and offers a multitude of trails and waterfalls that we love to enjoy. It is our own piece of natural beauty that we enjoy as often as we can.

The Friends of DuPont Forest is a volunteer service organization working to enhance the public use and enjoyment of the DuPont State Recreational Forest while protecting its natural resources. Currently the park is open for hunting, fishing, hiking, horseback riding and mountain biking so there is a lot for the “friends” to help with. Over 80 miles of dirt roads within the forest and maintenance is often done by volunteers from various groups to ensure that erosion is controlled and that the roads are safe for the extensive use.

I am happy to share that thanks to all of your comments on blog posts during this month Chris and I are making a donation of $ 145 to The Friends of Dupont Forest. Thank you once again for your comments and your support of charities here on It’s Just Life.

BREVARD, NC Branch

I decided that my July cause should be one that benefits young women so this month for every comment made on any blog post during the month I will donate 50 cents to the Scholarship Fund through the Brevard Branch of AAUW. If you have followed me you have seen that I am a huge supporter and fan of the the Annual AAUW (American Association of University Women) Book Sale. All of the proceeds from our amazing Brevard sale go to fund local scholarships.

The sale this year was a huge success and while I don’t have the final numbers I did hear it was over $34,000 raised from the sale (and eBay book sales) to go for local scholarships. Scholarships are available for young women attending Blue Ridge Community College and Brevard College.

This month please join me and help to promote learning for young women in Transylvania County. The AAUW Scholarship program is truly one of the best around and I am thrilled to highlight what they do. If you want to check out AAUW in your area make sure to take a look at the national website here for more information.

If you went to college or some other advanced education were you the recipient of a scholarship? I was and I know what a difference it made in my life. Let me know in the comments section what scholarship you received and how it helped you. Remember that each comment on any blog post this month means a 50 cent donation from It’s Just Life to AAUW Brevard Branch Scholarship Fund.
