What a FABULOUS DAY!!!! So blessed!!! We really had a fun day today in Halifax! Slept in a bit and then wandered down by the wharf and eventually made it to the Farmer’s Market. The concierge told us to find the omelet guy, the peanut butter ball guy and the bread lady. We got 2 out of the three which wasn’t bad. It was a madhouse and we were lucky to get out unscathed! Great place to shop for fresh stuff but we really didn’t need much of that so we got bread delights and peanut butter balls. YUM!
Hopped in the car and took off for Peggy’s Cove to see the lighthouse which our friend, “Cotton” Ketchie, has painted. We most likely would not have known about it if we did not know him! Great ride along the coast and a fabulous day weather wise! I am sporting the wind blown look but other than that it was sunny and bright and warm and lovely!!! Perfect day for climbing around on the rocks by the lighthouse and walking around the town.
We met several people—a couple asked us if we were on the plane from New York on Friday—guess they recognized us –so we had a nice conversation with them —they were from South Carolina so we caught up on Carolina news with them. Another couple stopped to talk to us and she was from Sterling, IL–close to where we used to live. People were very friendly today! Then we came upon a cute new shop called the Wharf Hags. 4 local artisans just opened it up 3 days ago so we were among their first customers. Gotta give a shout out to Angie and Pam—great place, great items and nice to support a new local business. I bought a darling fused glass necklace by Pam and a catnip mouse for my kitties by Angie. Their website isn’t up quite yet but when it is check it out–will be worth the visit! www.wharfhags.com
The lighthouse was beautiful but then I am a lighthouse lover. One of the funniest things was seeing a family with a dog and a huge stroller trek around on the rocks. The man finally had the stroller on his back and I am pretty sure the baby was in there because no one was holding it and later I saw them in town with the baby in the stroller. Crazy!
Chris was also thrilled that we found a little shop, Beales Bailiwick, that had meat pies and ginger beer!!! Memories of Australia and good ones! So we sat on their patio and ate and enjoyed the sunshine and breeze and got fortified for more walking and exploring. The last place we stopped on the way out was to view the memorial to the people who lost their lives in the Swiss Air 111 crash of 1998. All 229 people aboard the aircraft perished in that flight that was enroute from New York to Geneva. Pretty spot for a memorial but very sobering to think of the lives that were lost.
Back at the hotel for a nap and then hopefully we will find some yummy lobster for dinner……check out the pics in the slide show to see what we did today!
