So the big news in Mason City yesterday was a house that was being moved from a new location. If I have it correct it was a house that was on a spot where the hospital is going to expand so they had offered a bunch for sale for $1 plus the cost of moving it to your own lot. The nice associate at Staples (I was there YET again!) told me about it so I decided to go check it out. It was pretty amazing to see this huge house coming down the road with electric crews and about a billion chain saws going on before it. The whole move was going to take place over about a 15 block total span of space (if I got that part right!) and there was a corner to turn before it came to its final resting place. So the crews worked a block at a time, shutting things down, rerouting lines, cutting lots of limbs, moving things to make room and it was quite the sight.
Of course I had the need to talk to the “locals” who were out in full force and that was kind of fun to do. I don’t know many strangers, you know, and there were a lot of folks who were excited about the whole adventure that was unfolding before them. Not so excited about all the trees that were being cut which was massive. That was the part that hurt.
So I will post a slideshow of the pictures of the 144,000 pound house being moved here for those who missed the event of the day!!!
