Recapitulation

I took a few days off and I am very glad that I did.  I did not totally disconnect from social media—I still posted a few tweets, Facebook statuses and even checked on a few blogs but I did not write any posts.  Mr. Diamond came home and the above picture shows that the whole weekend was a thumbs up!

The first thing I realized was that Chris was coming in on Thursday instead of Friday like I thought!  It helps if you actually look at the email with the ticket info, right?  It’s all good—I made it to the airport in plenty of time and we had an easy drive home with him on the phone most of the ride.  Once we got home I had a great BBQ meal all ready to go in the slow cooker.   I posted this recipe not too long ago and it is a no brainer and a great welcome home meal.

2Friday brought lots and lots of work calls and a full day of work from the home office for the man.   I must admit it was nice to hear the one-sided conversations coming from his office while I worked on cards in mine.  I have missed those days.  A  lot.

Dinner included some lovely grilled steaks and chicken and the summer delicacy—-corn on the cob.  Iowa does it like no other state and this year’s crop is much tastier than we got last year.   I may have forgotten to take a picture before we dug in.  It was that good.

Saturday was a bit of work for Chris, some paper signing and more document signing (will it ever end?) and a quick lunch out and then off to see the movie, Lucy. It was a good movie but I was honestly glad that it was one of the shorter ones we have seen lately because quite honestly—my brain was on overload and the graphics were boggling my eyes and my mind.  Not that it takes much but I decided I was glad that my brain does not use 100% like Lucy’s did at the end of the movie.  I don’t think I could handle it.  Chris also warned me to watch out for the Children of the Corn when we left the theater…..they have planted corn in the space between the theater and the access road so it was a real concern.  Trust me.

The weekend went far too quickly and before we knew it we were headed back up to the airport on Sunday.  There was an accident and we managed to exit early so we did not get tied up in it and decided to grab a bite to eat at a new favorite restaurant in Owatonna, Andiamo Italian Ristorante .  We both had FABULOUS meals and our waitress was over the top entertaining which is always a bonus.  She asked me where I was from because of my “accent”.   That made me laugh because of course I do not think I have an accent but she was guessing Tennessee.   I told her I was a mutt and my accent was an all over accent but hey—-I will take a southern accent anytime.

As I dropped Chris off at the ticketing/check in area a woman stopped me when I was getting in the car and said “Lady, could you tak e me into Minneapolis?  I would be happy to give you some money to take me.” I quickly told her I was headed to Iowa and not into the city so that was not going to work for me.  I kind of think there might be some taxis at the airport—just saying.

Chris is on his way to Texas as I write this —suitcase full of chocolate chip cookies and things to stock the apartment for another few weeks. it was so great to have him home and as I gear up for a somewhat busy week I am happy that we had some quality time together.

This week is the big Pyrotechnics Guild Convention in Mason City held at the North Iowa Events Center —what that means, since our house is less than a mile away–is a lot of noise, loud booms and fireworks all week long.  I should be able to see some of them from the deck later on tonight so I think I will hang out there and see what I can see.  Fortunately they do not last all night.
