Snippets of Life

5 Comments/ 468/ 0

A quick post today as life is being consumed by everything AAUW Used Book Sale related. Whew. As I write this I am relaxing after a long day of physical labor. I am sadly not used to this much physical labor and the annual book sale every year is a good exercise in exercise. Lugging 1000 boxes of books from one building to the Brevard College gymnasium is a lot. Thank goodness we have a lot of members, spouses and significant others and young people that are Schenk Job Corps to help move those boxes. Once the boxes all get moved it is time to set up the tables and since I help with the History and Political category I get to help with that. We are in really good shape for the sale that begins on Saturday but I am always exhausted after the Thursday move.

It has been raining like crazy lately and my front flower bed is bursting with the best looking plants we have ever had since moving here. Each year we try to add some new perennials and finally I feel like we have a nice showing of lovely plants and flowers coming. This picture was taken a couple of weeks ago and it is dramatically different today.

Last week Chris had a new experience! A pedicure. I had been telling him for years that it would be good for him to get one every now and then and I finally just made an appointment for him with the husband of my lovely Ally who does my pedis and manis. He has not stopped raving about it so I think he is a convert.

.

Finally, I have been re reading Jess Lourey’s Murder by Month series as she has re released the series and was inspired to make a Minnesota Totdish complete with tater tots on top. YUMMY.

.

That’s it for another week. Hope your weekend finds you doing some fun for yourself and enjoying the outdoors and the onset of summertime weather. Catch you back here next week with more fascinating looks at It’s Just Life. Leave me a comment and Comment for a Cause for Transylvania County Farmers Market.

Old Girls in Low Cotton
by Helen Childress
This short book was one that looked like it would be a fun read. I honestly did not enjoy it all that much---it was a lot of characters bickering and while some of the writing was witty and funny it was not that kind of book that made m...

I loved this book! It had my interest from the very first page and was my "airplane" book on a recent trip. Author Mary Kubica created believable and interesting characters that the reader learned to identify with and care about. Mi...

All the Light We Cannot See

This is quite a book! I had it recommended to me by several people and while I thought it might be a little dark and depressing it made me have a better understanding of what life in this time period was like. The strength of the huma...

An Abundance of Katherines

Another great book by John Green. I have become a huge fan of John Green since my reading of A Fault in our Stars and this book was another that did not disappoint me at all. It was a story of a child prodigy, a lot of anagrams, and a b...
