A repost but still one of my very favorite places in our area. I need to go visit soon.
I have spent my fair share of time sitting in bleachers watching football games over the years. Micah was a player in junior high and high school and when he attended University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill we became pretty devoted Tar Heel fans and still try to get to a game or two a year.
What I did learn was a football term that can apply to many occasions in regular life as well. The term is “calling an audible”. It occurs when the quarterback of a football team scans the formation of the defense of the opposing team and sees something he doesn’t like about it. At that point he will yell to his own team, and his own team will switch formations to counter the defense. In other words he switches things up a bit.
Monday I called an audible. Not a huge one but one that made a huge difference in our day.
We had gotten into Atlanta after a long weekend in Seattle for a company board meeting and spent the night. Monday we went in search of the elusive gas (and were triumphant, thank goodness) and started the 3 1/2 hour drive home. Chris drove through the busy part and then I picked up the rest of the trip.
We were almost home and I did it.
I called the audible.
I turned right at Camp Greenville –a YMCA camp in Cleveland, South Carolina. But it was not the YMCA camp that I was interested in. It was the Fred W. Symmes Chapel also known as Pretty Place.
.
We had tried to visit so many times before. But there are always weddings and events going on and we usually were free on the weekend when it is busy. But on a Monday it was empty with the exception of some other visitors who would just not get out of my picture as you can tell.
.What a beautiful place. So serene.

I can just imagine a couple getting married here and many do. My favorite thing is to watch the Easter Sunrise Service as they live stream it every year since the pandemic began.
This special place is someplace that we almost always take visitors if you can. It is just one of those breathtaking places, any time of year.
God’s world extends in front of the cross in never ending beauty.
