I read a little book that is not the typical type of book that I normally read. Sometimes it is good to break out of a rut and stretch and this book definitely did that for me. Two people recommended it and since It was a really short book I thought it would be a quick read.
On Tyranny by Timothy Snyder was a very interesting book to read. The book shares twenty lessons from the twentieth century and the above quote is one of the things that stuck with me from the book.
Stand out.
It is very easy to blend in, to not say something when something needs to be said, to be part of the crowd and the silence. But there are times that each of us needs to stand out and speak out against or for something. In the twentieth century I think we are hopefully becoming a people who are willing to stand up and and stand out for things that we believe in. For injustices that we want to correct. For people that are marginalized. It is more important now than it ever was.
This book challenged me and spoke to me about some ways that I can be the difference in the world. One of those ways is to stand out. That is not easy for me. It is out of my comfort zone but there are times when I just need to do it.
What about you? Are there things that you want to take a stand on? Are you willing to be different? I would love to hear about it in the comments so make sure you leave me one . Comment for a Cause for American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
