Straining and Steeping on Teapot Tuesday

7 Comments/ 215/ 0

It seems there are a lot of folks who don’t know much about tea. Recently on one of my Facebook group feeds there was MUCH discussion about a teapot that was for sale at Aldi . Yep, Aldi again. Some people were trying to use this glass teapot on the stove and had all these questions. Others were responding with much fervor that this was a teapot and not a tea kettle and there were SO many explanations about the difference. Yes, a tea kettle is something you use on the stove top to actually heat the water to pour into the teapot to brew the tea. Or if you are like me you have an electric kettle that heats the water to the perfect temperature for whatever type of tea you are brewing. But there were SO many people that did not know the difference. I guess they need to visit Teapot Tuesday more often, right?

But it brought to mind that I had a couple new to me tea items that I had not shared here yet so here we go. A little education for those who need it. First up- a tea strainer that I picked up in Ohio this past summer at an antique store. Some teapots have built in strainers and some don’t. If. you have one that doesn’t and you use loose tea leaves you need to strain them out as you pour the brewed tea into the cup. Thus this type of tea strainer comes in handy and does the job.

Another item that can be used to contain loose tea leaves is something that is called an infuser. My sister got me this adorable cat infuser for Christmas and it works like a dream. Put the loose tea in the inside and lower into your teapot or cup to brew a perfect cuppa. I love this one.

.

.

So there you go – a little tea-education today on It’s Just Life. Hope you have a tea-riffic day.
