The Book of Books

30 Comments/ 392/ 0

My life appears to be book centric these days and that is quite alright by me. If you are counting I have numerous book related volunteer jobs. I am one of the librarians at our Connestee Falls Library located in our clubhouse. I have a Little Free Library that I am steward of and am working with a committee to get an AAUW one built and placed. Of course the biggest job right now is collecting and scanning and pricing books for our big AAUW Used Book Sale which will take place June 11-16, 2022. This is the event that I love and I am happily doing all that I can to help promote all things books.

With all of that being said, I find that I have the pick of the crop when it comes to books. I get to see donations and snag ones that look interesting to me. I found one in the donation box last week that I will be donating but not before I have a little bit of time to look at it.

The Book of Books by Les Krantz and Tim Knight definitely caught my eye. Filled with lists of reading recommendations and quirky lists and fun facts I decided it would be good blog post fodder. You are welcome.

Beginning with a list of African American Novels and ending with Young Adult Novels this book has so many lists I was amazed at the thoroughness of the authors.

Want to know the best Childhood Interrupted Memoirs? Check.

Best French Literature? Check.

Post World War II Novels? Check.

Southern Literature? Check.

Families of Writers? Check.

I could not possible include all of the great lists in this single blog post so for today I thought I would just choose a couple of categories and share the top book on the list from that category. I would love to know if any of my readers out there have read any of these.

The best in fiction from 1980-2005 has a lot of great contenders but topping the list was Beloved by Toni Morrison.

Animal Behavior Studies was a topic I had not thought about but there are a few good looking books on this list. Cry of the Kalahari by Mark and Delia Owens – a husband and wife naturalist team is one that I bought but have not read. You might know author Delia Owens from her recent successful book Where the Crawdads Sing.

Historical Fiction has made quite an appearance on the best sellers lists the past couple of years and one that was listed in the list was The Red Tent by Anita Diamant. This one has been a popular book club selection.

How about Muckraking Classics? Who knew that would be a category? Well it is and there are a few really great contenders on this list. All the President’s Men by Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein is a powerful political expose of the twentieth century.

Finally, how about Road Trips in Literature? Route 66: The Mother Road by Michael Wallis made the list and you might want to check it out. It gets my vote for clever title if nothing else.

There are so many books to read and so little time, right? Hope you enjoyed my little foray into The Book of Books. Let me know if you have read any of these and if you want to know about a certain list just let me know. I have the resource. Leave me a comment and Comment for a Cause for Ukrainian Red Cross.

Another great book by John Green. I have become a huge fan of John Green since my reading of A Fault in our Stars and this book was another that did not disappoint me at all. It was a story of a child prodigy, a lot of anagrams, and a b...
