The Little Blue Dish

10 Comments/ 508/ 1

A set of little blue dishes sits in the front corner of one of my kitchen cabinets. There used to be six of them until I dropped one and broke it. Typical Beth Ann move. I got them at a cute little shop in Beaufort, SC when we we’re there the last time which seems like a hundred years ago now. It was actually only about a year and half ago. What a year and half it has been, right?

I use this set of dishes a lot. I mostly got them to use for dipping oil and herbs when we have crusty bread with dinner. They are the perfect size. Sometimes I use them for meal prep and fill them with freshly cut herbs or other items that I am using in a meal. They are a colorful way to organize my items for a meal.

But recently they have taken on a new role in the Chiles household. You see I have this cat. Kitten. You might have seen him once (or a hundred times) here on It’s Just Life or on Facebook or his Instagram account (@MaksimAntonChiles) .

Every since I brought him home Maksim has LOVED chicken. His first taste, other than cat food, was a nibble of a Zaxby’s Chicken Tender. He snarfed it down. Whenever we have chicken for dinner, which is often, he gets a bit. The designated serving dish has become one of these little blue dishes.

Did I ever tell you how great his hearing is? It is phenomenal. Seriously. This past week I had a little piece of leftover chicken in the fridge and as I got it out for lunch I thought I should get a little bit for Maksim for dinner. I want to the cupboard and got out the little blue dish.

Suddenly, out of nowhere, Maksim came running to the kitchen from the upstairs. He had been sound asleep in my office. But somehow he heard me get that tiny dish out of the cupboard, knew it meant chicken time, and came running. It is crazy. He didn’t smell anything because I hadn’t heated anything up yet.

I think he is a genius. I also think he is as ornery as can be but he makes life fun and interesting. I couldn’t let the week go by without a few Maksim pictures. Enjoy!

I know you thought this would be a more serious post about the meaning of a little blue dish but instead you got Maksim overload. You just never know what you are going to read here on It’s Just Life. Tell me what you think in the comments and Comment for a Cause – Transylvania Christian Ministry – Sharing House.

This short book was one that looked like it would be a fun read. I honestly did not enjoy it all that much---it was a lot of characters bickering and while some of the writing was witty and funny it was not that kind of book that made m...
