Music is back in Brevard, North Carolina with opening weekend of the Brevard Music Center occurring over the weekend.
Did you ever realize how much you missed something and you didn’t realize it until it was back in your life?
To be honest, that was the feeling I had on last Friday night as we sat in our seats at the Brevard Music Center.
Last year the decision was made fairly early on in the year that it just was not going to be safe for the annual summer program to be held and we were all so disappointed. We have been attending since 2016 and it has become a huge part of our summer activities.
This year, instead of the usual 400 students, the festival is hosting a smaller group of around 100 but regardless of size, it’s good to have them back.
We arrived really early…
Opening night focused on A Beethoven Celebration featuring our favorite violinist, Anne Akiko Meyers. We have seen her before at BMC and loved her. She is an accomplished musician and always looks stunning as she performs which I find equally amazing. I mean how does she wear platform shoes, a stunning red dress, and play the violin and make it look effortless on a hot summer night?
A couple shots of my crumpled but loved program for the evening.
The crowd was amazing and there were many well deserved standing ovations. It was good to have music back in the Whittington-Pfohl Auditorium again on a larger scale.
But you want to know what got me the most? To start the season off conductor Keith Lockhart led the orchestra in playing and the audience in singing our National Anthem. My eyes might have leaked a little bit on that one.
If you are in the area it is definitely a great thing to check out. We don’t go to every single performance but we go to enough to be able to enjoy the breadth of what is offered. For more information go to their website here.
