The Things We Find in Books

27 Comments/ 15/ 3

Books, books, books.

I am surrounded by books whether it is in my living room, bedroom, office or even in the little apartment over the garage where I store my books for my Little Free Library. They seem to be everywhere and my husband might even suggest that they are taking over my life and our house.

But that’s okay because they bring me and so many others joy.

I went to restock the Little Free Library last week as I like to do.  I like to rotate books in and out and since The Whistlestop Market where it is located is going to be closed for a month I wanted to check on it and make sure it was stocked.  I suspect it won’t be as busy but it was a good time to trade some things out.

I pulled out a donated book that had appeared recently.  A book  that I personally loved and know that a lot of others love as well.

As I was leafing through it before I stacked it on my library bookshelf I saw a  paper inside the front cover.

How wonderful is it that someone donated their well loved book to a Little Free Library?  I absolutely love this note and that the writer took the time to pass on the love.  THAT is what Little Free Libraries are all about, my friends.  Sharing the love.

As I leafed through some other donations a picture fell out of one of the books and I laughed and laughed.

I have absolutely no idea who donated the book that this fell out of but it doesn’t matter. What does matter is that someone took a picture of three men at what might be a wedding.  The back of the heads picture needs no explanation from me.

My Little Free Library is booming and I have great plans to put up a few more but I have lacked execution on that.  One day I will get it together.

What do you think about my cards that I am now sticking inside the books for bookmarks?   Check out my Little Free Library Facebook page.  I am always posting book related things on it and often share free e-books as well.

Do you have a favorite book that you would put in a Little Free Library?  Let me know in the comments section and remember that all comments this month go to benefit The Bookworm Box.  Click here to read more about Comments for a Cause and how it works. Click here to read more about Comments for a Cause and how it works.

I’d put “A Man Called Ove” in the library. It’s one of my favorites. I have many books I’ve enjoyed but I’m horrible at remembering the titles.

I agree with “A Man Called Ove” . I just finished “My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She’s Sorry” and had a difficult time getting into it for some reason. The writing was more fairy tale and metaphor and I really struggled to read it . I write my books down because I am horrible at remembering as well. Sometimes I will reread a book thinking it seems familiar but can’t remember the details until I finish it again. 🙂

I loved that book too! It made me laugh and cry. And since I read a lot of penny dreadfuls I enjoyed the beautiful writting.

I love your cards! They turned out very well. The Red Tent is one of my favourites. Another favourite is The No.1 Ladies’ Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith and any from the series. I just cleaned out my bookshelves the other day and wished I lived closer to you to donate some to your Little Fee Library. There are book exchanges here and I dropped some off. I also gave a bag full of middle grade books to my 11 year old friend. I’m glad they have gone to a good home.

I am sure those book exchanges loved getting your books! And a perfect place to donate those middle grade books as well. Books are truly the gift that can keep on giving and giving.

I used to share books with my old neighbor and found it so fascinating to see people’s initials in the books. Some of them where read by so many people and just kept going and going. I loved that! I can only imagine how fun it is to find little treasures like the notes and pics in your books. Such an amazing idea!

I love that you were intrigued by initials in the books you shared. I love that idea as well and yes—it is something that keeps on giving!

I love your card. It is very friendly, just like you! Do you need “never for sale” when you already say Always free? Maybe you do. Just a thought. I’m long on thoughts. Did you see the tweet that I @ you on. I never know where tweets go but I thought of you and reshelving. If you didn’t get it. I’ll send it.

The Always Free – Never For sale is kind of a LFL thing. Honestly if someone really needs to sell a book for money I wouldn’t have an issue with it but the phrase just reinforces the fact that there are no strings to taking a book. And I missed that tweet so tweet it at me again, will ya?

You have a few things going on in your life— adding something more to your already busy life might be too much. But I hope folks use them as bookmarks!

    I love your cards.

But mostly I love how you love books and reading and are sharing that with others. I also love the note and the photo. What an uplifting post. Thank you for sharing your joy.

Happy your library is booming! I love the photo – Sharing books is such a personal, friendly gesture. I just read The Girls by Emma Cline. I read it cover to cover. Still haven’t tried an e-reader so I have lots of print books I should probably start sharing!

I’m looking at one of your cards right now! I just picked up the book you lent me and it fell out! I love it. Where did you have them made?

Thanks, Marci. I ordered these from VistaPrint this time but have used several other places for business cards as well. These turned out really cute and the books logo was the perfect template.

Yes it was! Did you supply the art, or did they have it already as a template?

It was actually a template that they had on site which worked out really well for what I wanted. But you can upload artwork and photos, etc. I took the easy way this time. 🙂

I really enjoyed this book as well and think that the author did a pretty good job of writing a very readable story. Whether all of the details are “biblically sound” or not I am not sure but it was a book that I found myself losing myself in and that is always a good thing.
