Waterfall Wednesday – Falls Park – An Oasis in a City

8 Comments/ 2954/ 0

Visit Greenville, South Carolina any time of the year and a required stop is Falls Park located in the heart of the city.  Chris and I stopped in Greenville on our way to Kiawah Island a few weeks ago and we discovered this hidden gem purely by accident.  Chris always has his eye on the details and he had made lunch reservations at a place called Passerelle located in Falls Park. We parked, did a little shopping and found our way to the bistro that overlooked waterfalls.  We had no idea there was a waterfall there because we just had not even picked up on the name of the place until we arrived.

The menu and offerings at this wonderful little bistro were off the charts amazing.  We elected to have the cheese plate as a starter and the fig and shallot preserves were like nothing I have ever tasted before.  Gooey and sweet and chewy all served on a crispy crostini bread and I was asking for more. Chris opted for the Croque Monsieur and I got the Chicken Salad Sandwich both of which were prepared very nicely and our tummies were very happy after finishing our meal al fresco. If you are in Greenville I would highly recommend stopping here for lunch or dinner.  Our service was prompt and efficient and we had one of the best tables outside so our view was most enjoyable.PicMonkey CollageAfter an amazing lunch we decided to walk around Falls Park a bit and get an idea of what the place was all about.  A beautiful park in the middle of downtown featuring waterfalls, bridges, well maintained trails and flowers blooming everywhere.

Of course I did not have my camera with me as I did not anticipate seeing such a wonderful park but the trusty iPhone worked to capture a few shots of the waterfalls and grounds. Falls Park

Falls Park 7There were plenty of people enjoying all the parts of the park on the lovely spring day when we visited and judging from their website there is always a lot going on to take part in as well as just enjoying the beauty of the park itself.

Falls Park 13What a lovely space to while away a few hours but unfortunately we had miles to go before we slept so we enjoyed an abbreviated trip and vowed to make another trip to Greenville soon so we can have more time to enjoy this wonderful park and the fun boutique laden downtown. Falls Park 10

There is such history here and the city has placed markers to help visitors get a glimpse into the past.  I loved being able to read a little bit about the area.

Have you ever been to Greenville, SC?  What was your favorite spot when you visited?
