We Ain’t Got Moxy

7 Comments/ 490/ 0

It all started off badly with an elevator in the parking garage that did not work. We schlepped our suitcases down from the 5th level. Fortunately we only had one small suitcase each and a backpack or briefcase but whew. It was a workout.

We checked into the Moxy at Richmond, picked for its downtown central location, and realized that we were definitely not the demographic that this place caters to. Boy, were we not.

We stepped off the elevator into the hallway leading to our room and were stunned by the darkness of the hallway. Seriously dark. The picture makes it look brighter than it was but it was dark, dark, dark.

.

Our room was great. Kind of like the Aloft idea where the rooms are small and minimal because according to the stuff we read {later} they want people to mingle at the bar and in the gathering areas downstairs. Ironically, the tv in this room was the largest one we have had in recent hotel stays so not sure what that meant.

The shower boasted a cutely worded metal drain. Deep end.

.

The art work was…interesting.

We were offered coupons for a free welcome cocktail or mocktail and after dinner we decided to use those coupons at the bar which was the main attraction on the first floor. Once our server made the drinks, they looked at us and asked, “Do you want those to go?” . I laughed and said yes –we were definitely harshing the vibe of the much younger and much hipper crowd and happily took our drinks which were transferred to a plastic cup to our room to enjoy.

Upon check out we got a free cup of coffee to go and Chris dumped an entire container of honey into his cup as the lid was not on correctly. Then we slugged up the 5 levels to find our car safe and sound and left. I doubt that we will ever seek out a Moxy hotel again but at least we can say we tried one. Life is short. Go for the experiences and then you have blog material.

Old Girls in Low Cotton

This short book was one that looked like it would be a fun read. I honestly did not enjoy it all that much---it was a lot of characters bickering and while some of the writing was witty and funny it was not that kind of book that made m...
