What A Difference A Rain Chain Makes

10 Comments/ 362/ 1

Rain chain, you say? What the heck is a rain chain? Rain chains are decorative alternatives to the normal rain gutter downspouts. There are so many options out there and we have talked about getting some for the back deck for years.

We have always had gutters that get clogged despite gutter guards. Since we do live in a temperate rainforest we get a lot of rain. Sometimes it is super heavy and the gutters just can’t handle it. The most annoying part has been a steady drip drip drip from one closest to the bedroom that just never ever seemed to dry out.

With Aaron visiting this past weekend Chris had someone else to climb the ladder and help out so it was rain chain installation day and now we wonder why we waited so long. When you buy a house you often buy previous owner issues that have never really been fixed. The way our back is designed had way too much water going through a limited space.

After they guys installed the rain chains they got tested by a downpour which was great because it showed that they actually worked. No more drip drip drip. No more overflowing gutters thanks to redoing some of the gutter guards with foam inserts.

I think there is a lesson to be learned from rain chains. The water gets redirected and redistributed so that it flows easily and gently to the ground or to a rain barrel. As I sat and thought about it I decided that God has been kind of like a rain chain in my life. He has gently redirected my actions and helped me redistribute my gifts and talents to areas where they can be most used and appreciated. So in my life God has been my rain chain –helping me to use what He has blessed me with in great ways.

So let the rain fall …. God continues to show me in simple ways how His Hand is ever present in my life. I just need to step back and pay attention to those ordinary things in order to turn them into extraordinary things. What about you? Leave me a comment and Comment for a Cause for NAMI.
