What Am I Reading?

3 Comments/ 550/ 0

Happily I have been on a reading binge lately. It is nice to be able to do that after having a couple of weeks of just not feeling like reading at all. Of course I want to share some of the books I have loved that I have read with my readers and give you some suggestions to add to your own reading lists.

.

I picked up Theo of Golden at my favorite shop in downtown Brevard, Theophilus. Written by Allen Levi, this book is one of those that makes. you think and helps you realize how important generosity and kindness are in our lives. I absolutely loved this book and savored it. It’s been awhile since I read a book that made me feel this good inside after I finished it. I had it on my stack to read for a long time and I am so glad that I waited till I had just the right time to read it. Do you ever feel like that? That sometimes something is worth waiting to do or in this case- to read? That was the case with this book. I would highly recommend this one. It has a lovely premise and is well written and engaging. Currently I believe it is a free download on Kindle for Unlimited Kindle users.

Another book that I found at my favorite bookstore – Highland Books– is LuLu Dean’s Library of Banned Books by Kirsten Miller. Give me a book about Little Libraries AND banned books and I am in! This was a great read about a pretty timely subject and I loved it. LuLu Dean is a very opinionated woman who has definite likes and dislikes and believes that some books are not fit to be read. She creates a free library in her yard with titles that she believes are appropriate for her little town of Troy, Georgia. The fun begins when one of residents replaces the books with other books that are much more controversial but leaves the G rated covers on. When the community members start reading some of the books in the library, things start to change and that’s where the fun begins. Another great book to read that made me laugh out loud at times.

What the Mountains Remember by Joy Callaway is a lovely historical novel about the building of the Grove Park Inn in Asheville. I have loved our visits and stays at the Grove Park Inn and when I saw the cover of this book I knew exactly what it was about. Author Joy Callaway takes a different look at the building of this “eighth wonder of the world” by focusing on the laborers who actually built the impressive inn. Belle Newbold has been tasked with writing an article about the building of this fabulous building and as she researches the processes used, she realizes the importance of those men who are actually creating the magnificent structure. The author does great character development and this was a quick but entertaining read.

The Prayer Box by Lisa Wingate was recommended in a book group I follow and I found a copy at our library. I am a fan of Lisa Wingate and have read several of her books including Before We Were Yours which I really enjoyed. This book, written in 2013, is the first in a trilogy and as the title suggests has a definite Christian theme to it but it is heart felt and filled with emotion and depth. I read it quickly on a Sunday afternoon and it was the perfect Sunday read. The idea of the prayer box was not new to me but the story that the author wove about the idea of prayer boxes was simply lovely and heart warming. Need a nice light feel good book to read? This one is for you.

What are you reading that is good enough to recommend? I would love to add to my ever growing list so let me know in the comments and Comment for a Cause for Pisgah Legal Services.
