A Bit of This – A Bit of That

12 Comments/ 103/ 1

What I Am Reading

I just finished reading Home Before Dark by Riley Sager and This Book Is Anti-Racist: 20 Lessons on How to Wake Up, Take Action and Do the Work by Tiffany Jewell. Obviously both books are different genres but they were both great books to read. Home Before Dark was was spellbinding and kept me trying to figure out how it was all going to end and was a nice little escape from reality book. The other book I just finished was very timely, of course. I need to continue to learn. Right now my current book is a fun little read by Janet Evanovich – Hardcore Twenty Four. I can always count on this writer to give me a fun read that doesn’t require a lot of thinking and that is what I needed today.

What I Am Listening To

Podcasts and more podcasts. I do love a good podcast. If you haven’t checked out my friend Jean and her sister Laura’s podcast called OK Boomer you need to. I love it. They never let me down and I always come away with a chuckle or two. Plus getting to hear Laura play Beautiful Ohio on every podcast makes me smile from ear to ear. Another podcast I have not shared here before that I enjoy is StoryCorps. Always interesting and insightful this is a podcast that shares stories of people – everyday people who have great stories to tell. It is always a good one to listen to.

What I Am Baking and Cooking

Hmmm. Baking and cooking are my stress reducers. This week my very kind neighbor Elaine picked blueberries and gave me a bag of beautiful freshness so I had to make some muffins, right? They turned out so good – especially fresh out of the oven. Here is a link to the recipe in case you want to makes some of your own. Super simple and yummy.

Other Random Things

We have had bears and raccoons in our backyard lately again — seems they like our yard to wander through and I have been diligent about taking the hummingbird feeders in off the deck. Not so much with the bird feeders in the yard and that is the issue I am afraid so I may have to rethink that for awhile.

Things I Am Creating

A get well card for my brother Chris who just had knee replacement.
A Birthday card for my brother Mark who celebrated number 62 this week. A Covid 19 themed card seemed appropriate this year.

More of Maksim

Maksim has now discovered the top of the bookcases are pretty fun
but he obviously wants to go higher still. Stay tuned for developments.

So tell me – what’s going on with you this week? I would love to read about it in the comments. Remember every comment made on any blog post this month means a 50 cent donation to our Comments for a Cause – National Association on Mental Illness – NAMI.

i Read the Evanovich for a long time and remover when she came out with her first ones. I was traveling as an adjunct and the books were the big topic in the airports. I think I got to 10. Maybe, I should go backwards now? May I borrow the book? I have a mini library of your books to return😷

She is a fun writer! I borrowed the ebook from the library so I don’t have a “real” copy or else you would be welcome to it.

I love the cards you created for your brothers. I´ve been writing and reading. In the middle of Toni Morrison´s The Song of Solomon. Very good! I also went to the mall and did some shopping. I came away with 2 new tops. A bit of retail therapy after three months! All is good. xo

Which app do you use for podcasts? I’m seeing more and more of them pop up lately and feel like dipping my toes in.

This week has been a bit busy – back in my walking routine with my long-time friend, babysitting our granddaughter, doing some yard work (those weeds, they never stop coming!!), and reading an e-book, If These Walls Could Talk by Dan Walsh. It’s a timely read for what’s going on right now.

We have hummingbirds and all the regular birds at my feeders. Luckily no bear here, though the coyotes are around. Lots and lots of squirrels too. Katie and I have been sleeping out in the tent in the backyard the nights it doesn’t get too cold. Too cold is in the 40s for me, but she’d love that. She gets so excited about 8:30 and starts crying and running to the back door. Last week when I took the tent down for awhile she still cried and I had to let her take me out there to show her the tent wasn’t there. She was so sad. We got the last of the 45 yards of mulch put down. I had to rest for 3 days after that. I have a huge urge to bake, but I’m trying not to, because it’s just the two of us that are going to eat whatever I make…still….maybe…those muffins look awfully good!

I adore Jean and Laura’s podcasts too. I listen to them with the headphones on and giggle in the garden. So much fun!
