A Month for Thankfulness

9 Comments/ 441/ 0

November is a lot of things but of course it is best known for the Thanksgiving holiday. Our Thanksgivings look a lot different than they did years ago. I remember driving to my Grandma Bonnie’s house for a huge feast. She was a really good cook and I think I inherited her ability to dirty every pan and dish in the kitchen while I cook.

It’s a good thing.

I have so many memories of her in the kitchen, steam rising from the dishes on the stove, oven cranked up to finish off the turkey or the pies or the sweet potato casserole.

And then we feasted. Boy, did we feast. It was an event.

We lingered. We laughed. We talked and enjoyed being together.

These days our Thanksgivings are a little different. Many years we have had the boys together with us at a beach location or someplace to enjoy the holiday but as time moves on and there are in-laws and other families we share time with them. It is also not always easy for young professionals to carve out time for travel for a short weekend . I get that. I totally understand because for many years when the boys were young we made the trek to both sides of our families for a Thanksgiving weekend and it was a lot. I am glad we did it but it was a lot.

This year our Thanksgiving will be just Chris and myself and I am actually looking forward to that. We are going to the beach and we will just enjoy some down time after a very busy fall. A little breather before the rush of December descends upon us. Because once December comes we all know how the month flies by.

I decided to be intentional about posting about things I am thankful for and that starts today. Today I am so thankful for my family. The family that I grew up in, the family I married into, the family that Chris and I were fortunate enough to have and the daughters in law and their families. We are one big happy family and isn’t that just grand? Seriously – not everyone can boast that and I am so very thankful indeed that I can.

If you could tell me just one thing today that you are thankful for I would love to know what it is. Please leave it in the comments and remember to Comment for a Cause for the American Brain Tumor Association.

Old Girls in Low Cotton

This short book was one that looked like it would be a fun read. I honestly did not enjoy it all that much---it was a lot of characters bickering and while some of the writing was witty and funny it was not that kind of book that made m...

Another great book by John Green. I have become a huge fan of John Green since my reading of A Fault in our Stars and this book was another that did not disappoint me at all. It was a story of a child prodigy, a lot of anagrams, and a b...
