America’s Oldest Independently Owned Bookstore – Otto Bookstore

9 Comments/ 99/ 1

If you know me you know of my love of everything books. I adore books. Always have. Always will. Imagine my excitement when I discovered that America’s Oldest Independently Owned Bookstore was just a couple blocks away from my hotel and I had a totally free morning.

I set off to walk to Otto Bookstore located at 107 W 4th St. in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.  Founded in 1841, the Otto Bookstore has been a part of the Williamsport community for over 200 years. It is also one of the five oldest bookstores in the United States which is no small feat. I was thrilled to find it so easy to walk to and the staff was welcoming and agreed to allow me to take some pictures.

An entire huge section on fishing caught my eye because of my fisherman husband.
If you are looking to stretch your creativity there is a huge section for you.
Chicken Soup books are so popular. Just look at all of these different titles.
Everything is really well marked and easy to navigate.
Sale carts held lots of great buys for $1 and $5.
One of my favorite authors is Louse Penny – I need to get busy and read more of hers.
Just look at all of those glorious books.
An amazing children’s section holds hundreds of wonderful titles.
Cards, tote bags and other gifts are also available.
Can you guess what’s inside my bag?
Some books for me and some for gifts — all going to great homes including mine.

What a wonderful morning I had. I replaced the bridal party gifts in my suitcase with books and went home happy. Thanks to Otto Bookstore for a wonderful adventure and for some good reading.

Tell me, what are you reading right now? Have you ever been to Otto Bookstore in Williamsport, PA? I would love to hear about it . Leave me a comment and Comment for a Cause for Find Your Anchor.

I do love bookstores – and libraries, too! Growing up, my Dad always insisted that we visit the library in any town we were visiting. I think my sister inherited his love of books because she became a librarian. I just love taking my time to just see the amazing variety of books. What a great way to spend the day.

I love this place and wish I could stop in right now. Enjoy your purchases. I am late commenting as I have not had access to my emails for ten days. Very frustrating.
