I have a great idea! Actually it is a great idea from someone else but I am going to put my own twist on it and use it! I wish I had thought of it myself but I have to give all the credit to Karen and Gerard over at Our Stack (http://ourstack.blogspot.com/) who have come up with the idea of donating 50 cents per legitimate comment on their blog to a charity . They have picked a couple of different ones and I thought I would jump on the bandwagon and do the same!!!
This month is Parkinson’s Awareness Month. My daddy had Parkinson’s. He passed away in 1994 from complications related to Parkinson’s so this disease is something that I am acquainted with a bit. It is not a fun disease. Not many are. But my daddy was a strong man who made the best of the disease that took his mobility and sometimes his ability to express his thoughts clearly. I was so blessed to be able to spend as much time with him as I did. Not everyone has the chance to feel like they have had quality time with a loved one before they die but I did and I am grateful.
So for the month of April I am going to make a pledge to you !! For each legitimate comment that is made on my blog during the month I will donate 50 cents to The National Parkinson’s Foundation. The legitimate part is important! Even though Askimet does a great job of filtering spam comments there are still some that I have to purge now and then! I don’t care if you just post a smiley face or a heart—I will count it! I believe in this and if a donation will get closer to helping find a cure for this disease–then I want to be part of it!!!
And in case you hadn’t figured it out before—the picture is of me and my hubby on our wedding day in 1982 with my daddy. My all time favorite picture. I miss him every day.

Thanks, Linda!!! My favorite picture of all time!
Sweet! This is wonderful that you are doing this! I am going to make a special blogroll on my blogs of all the ones I know of who are doing this so I can support them regularly and others may join in too. What a huge impact the blogosphere can have if this would really catch on! You picked a good cause too!
I think that is another great idea of yours!!! A special blogroll for bloggers with a heart!!! <3 it!!! Thanks so much for the idea! And I am working on my Shelfari—-it is taking awhile….:-)
Well you KNEW I would comment!!! I love that picture of you and your Dad too, it is just priceless. He was a very special man to so many and especially to me…he was the one who not only baptized me, but brought me to the Lord the day he preached 1 Corinthians 13 at Hannibal. I remember Paula and I were sitting in the last pew on the right side by ourselves that Sunday. He (and “HE”) changed my life forever. This is just a fantastic idea and will help so many. Blessings and hugs!
Thanks, Becky!!! I think it is pretty cool that you shared that with me!! I did not know that! I know that my dad would be so happy that Paula is following in his footsteps now as a pastor—he is smiling I know!! Thanks for the comment! I am hoping it is a banner month for comments!!! Have a great day!
What an excellent idea! I love that picture; so sweet.
Thanks, Mary!!! Can’t take credit for the idea but sure am trying to spread the word!!! Feel free to pass it along and share the idea and the comment love!!!
I’m a nurse practitioner in a hospital, and I recently cared for a patient with Parkinson disease and just wanted to say to those who might be dealing with a family member with this disease – please be careful which medications your nurse practitioner or physician prescribes for you, especially medications which may be for nausea or bladder issues. You may notice worsening of symptoms (but they are reversible when the meds are stopped). Side effects of these meds are exacerbated in those with Parkinson. thanks for the post, sweet picture 🙂
Kim, thanks for stopping by and for the comment!!! My dad was really sensitive to most of the traditional meds for Parkinson and did not do well on most of the meds. I know it is different for each patient and that there are so many risks with every medication that is taken. Thanks for the comments and for stopping by! I really appreciate it!!! Have a great week!
What a lovely picture of you and your dad. It made me go, “awwww”
You go girl with the donations for each legit. comment. I’m very impressed. When the month is done you will have to let us know if it seems that you received more comments in April than in other months.
