Bordering on Perfection?? Really???

4 Comments/ 1873/ 0

I ran across this picture / advertisement in a magazine recently and it just struck me as an odd way to promote a state.  Bordering on perfection?? Doesn’t that mean that the states around Iowa are the perfect places  and Iowa is just kind of trying to ride the coattails of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Missouri, Nebraska, and South Dakota?    I think it does.  I think it is just a really strange way to promote tourism of a state.  I know, I know—I live in Iowa.  I should be waving the pom poms and using the megaphone to tell you all how wonderful our state is.  It does have its good points.

1.   Corn.  Lovely fresh corn on the cob in the summer.   Nothing quite like Iowa corn.

  1. Wind.  We live in the windiest place ever.  No wonder we have so many windmills.  So if you are a fan of the windblown look come to Iowa.

3.  Eagles.  We do have the best live eagle cam available.  Check it out.  I am obsessed.

  1. Iowa is the only state name that starts with two vowels.

  2. Pigs—we have a lot of pigs in Iowa, also.  This translates to great pork chops.  Take my word on this one.

6. Iowa is the only state whose east and west borders are 100% formed by water. Missouri and Mississippi rivers.
7. Meredith Willson, who played with the famous John Philip Sousa and the New York Philharmonic before launching his career as a famous composer and lyricist, is a Mason City native.   (That would be MY town now!  🙂  )
8.  Quaker Oats, in Cedar Rapids, is the largest cereal company in the world.
9. Strawberry Point is the home of the world’s largest strawberry
10.  Nickname…The Hawkeye State, The Tall Corn State
Now you know a little bit more about Iowa.  Your day is complete.  And so is mine.  Enjoy your Monday!!!

That is funny as heck. I’m guessing the tourism folks never looked at it that way.

You make an interesting point but I didn’t take it that way. I took it as it’s close to perfection. You came up with a funny list of things about Iowa, thanks for the laugh!
