Comments for a Cause Takes On Education

34 Comments/ 793/ 1

It is Comments for a Cause time again. The month of July was somewhat of a blur for me but I knew that when August 1st rolled around I would be thrilled to announce the results of our July Comments for a Cause and reveal the recipient of the August Comments for a Cause.  For those of you new to It’s Just Life I started this charitable donation program back in April 2011.  Every month I select a new cause and for each comment made on any blog post during that month Chris and I donate 50 cents to that cause with a cap of $500.  Our greatest donations have been the months when people really can identify with the cause and come back every day to comment and invite their friends to comment.80th

In July we selected the Brevard Music Center Summer Institute and Festival.  One of the biggest draws for us to move to Brevard was the rich and diverse cultural experiences that we knew we could experience in the area.  The Brevard Music Center is celebrating 80 years and this summer they boasted 80 performances during the 10 week program.  400 students attend and along with over 70 instructors they learn and share their talents with each other and with concert goers.

Chris and I have enjoyed being a part of the series this summer and while we have not been able to attend as many concerts as we would have liked the ones we attended were spectacular.  We have decided we love the lawn seats because we can picnic before the concert and enjoy a more relaxed and inexpensive choice.

I am happy to announce that we will be donating $175.00  to the fund which supports the Brevard Music Center.  If you want to know more go to their website here.

August marks the one year anniversary of our move to Connestee Falls outside of Brevard, NC.  One of the attractions of this community for us aside from the beautiful setting was the emphasis on helping others.  One of the most successful programs in the area is the Connestee Falls Student Scholarship Program which has been in existence since 1987.  To date the Scholarship Program has been able to donate over $800,000 to 500 local Transylvania County students to help with their education.

The selection process is organized by the local  staff of the Transylvania County Public School System, Brevard College, and Blue Ridge Community College. The Connestee Falls program  participates in the selection of the high school students. The two colleges make awards through their own selection process.

Connestee Falls Student Scholarships are funded through various events such as golf tournaments, Casino Nights and other fundraising efforts which residents and local community members are encouraged to support. Local business support has also been vital and in the past year the fundraising increased by a pretty dramatic 23% increase from the past year.  The only criteria for students to receive the scholarship is that they must reside within Transylvania County.

So for August when we are all starting to think of going back to school let’s rally behind the Connestee Falls Scholarship Program  and come and comment often on posts at It’s Just Life.  I would love to write a big fat check to help support local students.  Education is key to success in our world and it would be wonderful to be a small part of this program.  So come back often and comment.  Thanks to all for your continued support.
