It is Comments for a Cause time again. The month of July was somewhat of a blur for me but I knew that when August 1st rolled around I would be thrilled to announce the results of our July Comments for a Cause and reveal the recipient of the August Comments for a Cause. For those of you new to It’s Just Life I started this charitable donation program back in April 2011. Every month I select a new cause and for each comment made on any blog post during that month Chris and I donate 50 cents to that cause with a cap of $500. Our greatest donations have been the months when people really can identify with the cause and come back every day to comment and invite their friends to comment.
In July we selected the Brevard Music Center Summer Institute and Festival. One of the biggest draws for us to move to Brevard was the rich and diverse cultural experiences that we knew we could experience in the area. The Brevard Music Center is celebrating 80 years and this summer they boasted 80 performances during the 10 week program. 400 students attend and along with over 70 instructors they learn and share their talents with each other and with concert goers.
Chris and I have enjoyed being a part of the series this summer and while we have not been able to attend as many concerts as we would have liked the ones we attended were spectacular. We have decided we love the lawn seats because we can picnic before the concert and enjoy a more relaxed and inexpensive choice.
I am happy to announce that we will be donating $175.00 to the fund which supports the Brevard Music Center. If you want to know more go to their website here.
August marks the one year anniversary of our move to Connestee Falls outside of Brevard, NC. One of the attractions of this community for us aside from the beautiful setting was the emphasis on helping others. One of the most successful programs in the area is the Connestee Falls Student Scholarship Program which has been in existence since 1987. To date the Scholarship Program has been able to donate over $800,000 to 500 local Transylvania County students to help with their education.
The selection process is organized by the local staff of the Transylvania County Public School System, Brevard College, and Blue Ridge Community College. The Connestee Falls program participates in the selection of the high school students. The two colleges make awards through their own selection process.
Connestee Falls Student Scholarships are funded through various events such as golf tournaments, Casino Nights and other fundraising efforts which residents and local community members are encouraged to support. Local business support has also been vital and in the past year the fundraising increased by a pretty dramatic 23% increase from the past year. The only criteria for students to receive the scholarship is that they must reside within Transylvania County.
So for August when we are all starting to think of going back to school let’s rally behind the Connestee Falls Scholarship Program and come and comment often on posts at It’s Just Life. I would love to write a big fat check to help support local students. Education is key to success in our world and it would be wonderful to be a small part of this program. So come back often and comment. Thanks to all for your continued support.

Thanks so much , Bernadette. We are excited about the new month and the new cause!
Thanks so much, Bernadette!
Another great cause!
Thanks, Dawn! Anything education based is a winner in my book.
Thanks, Dawn. I think it is another winner.
Congrats to both causes, worthiness seems to be a common theme with your monthly donations. Good luck this month as well Beth Ann.
Thank you! It is such great fun to discover new causes every month and to have people like you who faithfully check to see what it is. Thanks for stopping by.
To you and Chris, thank you for your continued generosity. Another great cause this month.
I can’t believe it’s been a year already since you left Iowa.
Thank you for faithfully commenting. It is hard to believe we have been here almost a year as well. Honestly I do not know how it can be August already.
We just bought lawn seats for the finale on Sunday – I’m praying it doesn’t rain! Good choice for August! BTW, for some reason, you’re blog is making me add my name & email lately. Do you know why?
We might go in the rain this time anyway. Wanna picnic with us ahead of time? The adding your name is probably because we moved to a different server over the weekend. Hopefully it will recognize you next time!
Are you asking about Sunday’s concert? Because it’s at 3 pm – would you be picnic’ing at that time?
Also, so far it’s not recognizing me – I have to enter it each time….
Has it been a year already since the big move?? Congratulations on a great July and another wonderful cause for August. You sure know how to pick ´em.
A year in a few weeks–it is hard to believe. I still have a lot of unpacking to do. 🙂
I´m still not all unpacked either. There is time for that yet!!
I don’t feel so badly then. I agree—that there is time and if I really haven’t used it do I really need it??
Anything for education is a winner in my books!
I agree! Thanks for stopping by!
Happy one year in NC!
Not quite yet but in a few weeks….Thanks!
Thank you Beth Ann for your attention to education and our children. It’s fantastic and much appreciated!!
Thank you for all that you are doing for education as well. You are doing a much needed job and sharing your expertise with others in your leadership. Thank YOU!
Thank you so much for your concern and generosity regarding the scholarship program. Love your blog too
Linda, Thanks so much for taking the time to stop by! I am thrilled to be featuring the Scholarship program and know that there is so much good that is going on in Connestee Falls and beyond that no one has a clue about. This is my very small attempt to share a bit of that with my readers. Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to leave a comment. Please come back often! I am always writing about something! 🙂
Thank you so much for your support for the Connestee Falls Student Scholarship Program!
Vicki, thank you so much for taking the time to stop by and leave a comment. You know I am really thrilled to highlight some local things on my blog and even if the folks who read it are not necessarily local it is fun to see their reactions to some of the places and events we are able to share. Thanks again for all that you do for the Connestee Falls Student Scholarship Program!
Education is always a worthy cause! We went to Chattanooga, not too long ago and realized that it’s pretty darn close to Brevard… Next time we’ll check with ya’ & see if ya’ll have time for lunch. Hard to believe it’s almost been a year but it sounds like you’ve carved out a nice niche of cackalacky for yourselves!
YES!!! Please let me know if you are ever around. I am not sure when I am going to make it to Raleigh next but I would love to meet up with you guys if we can make it work. I just need to stay home long enough to make plans to go see the youngest !
