New Yorkers love their dogs.
If you live in New York City and don’t have a dog I would suspect you are in the minority. It is a very dog friendly city and whenever we visit I love to look at all of the dogs.
One thing I have learned also is to avoid that wet spot on the pavement. To the untrained eye it might just look like someone spilled their coffee but no – that little spot is a piddle spot and one that I definitely don’t want to step in. Micah and Wendy have a “no shoes on in the apartment rule” and after looking at the streets I understand that rule is a necessity.
But before I get too far off topic here let’s just take time to look at some pictures of some sweet dogs in the city that I snuck photos of . Of course this is just a sampling but you get the idea. Dogs rule in NYC.
I managed to get quite a few photos after the dogs had passed by. Just not quick enough to get the face shot but sometimes any shot of a dog makes a smile appear, right?
This little guy wasn’t walking fast enough so he got picked up.
This is Toby. Toby’s mom was a Corgi so his owner was really interested in Penny. Toby had a really sweet disposition and had the cutest little bow tie on his collar.

My favorite NYC Dog–Penny. 🙂 Her backside is pretty cute, right?
I know that not everyone loves dogs but when I see one I just gravitate toward them. While we don’t have one of our own we have totally enjoyed having a grand puppy and maybe someday there will be a dog in our future. Remember I am the one who never says never.

Leave a commentI love all the pictures!! Of course I like puppy number 6 best as it looks like Dot!! Toby is awfully cute too and of course I love Penny! We live in a very dog friendly area too. Just about everyone has a dog or two.
I’m not really a dog person, but doggies don’t seem to realize that as they are always eager to greet me and will go out of their way to do so. I don’t hate dogs, just prefer cats instead. Anyway, when we were in Boston, I actually saw people walking around with their dogs in doggy strollers. I understand they love their pups and all, but really? And shouldn’t they be letting their dogs get exercise by walking instead of being pampered? I still can’t understand it. 😉
Oh my they are all so cute but my favorite has to be Penny!
I gravitate to dogs and puppies too! You know how I feel about my Miss Nike!
I’m like Mama’s Empty Nest, not really a dog person. Having grown up on a farm, I see their value in the work they could do on the farm. I’m OK with dogs as long as they mostly stay away from me and especially don’t jump on me.
Why do you think so many New Yorkers own dogs?
I’m definitely a huge dog lover and would have more than just our Audrey if we had more time. I’m sure once the kids are out of the house we’ll add to our menagerie.
I found that NC is also very dog friendly, at least in the places we have visited and it always strikes me that it seems more so than here in Florida.
All great dogs but I think my favorite is #1. Looks like a lot of personalty there and of course Penny.
These dog photos are making my day. I bet Buddy and Holly would adjust to a new dog brother:)
I actually like big menacing police-type dogs, so will vote for that one. (Most of them are not all that menacing; even the one who bit me was just desperate for attention.)
I’d like a greyhound but have been convinced that it’d run me off my feet, and I’d want to put it up for adoption in a week. They *are* lovable, though, when not tempted to show everyone how they can run! Everyone training for a marathon should consider adopting a quiet, no-drama, almost no-shedding, extremely strong and fast dog.
