From Ribbons to Linens – Comments for a Cause

9 Comments/ 745/ 0

February 2025 ! According to Punxsutawney Phil, the famous groundhog, we are in for 6 more weeks of winter because he saw his shadow. I am choosing to follow our own local celebrity, Pisgah Piper, a white squirrel who predicted an early spring. I trust Pisgah Piper and judging from our warming trend the past couple of days we are optimistic,

The beginning of the month also means the reveal of the next Comments for a Cause here on the blog and today is the day. Last month we supported the White Ribbon Project that supports education for lung cancer.

The White Ribbon Project promotes awareness about lung cancer by changing public perception of the disease. Anyone with lungs can get lung cancer.

I personally know people with this disease and our oldest son has a deep desire to further education and new medications and treatments for this disease that can strike anyone. It makes me happy to announce that due to comments on It’s Just Life Chris and I will be making a donation of $75 to The White Ribbon Project.

Our new recipient for Comments for a Cause will be Lois’ Linens.

Lois’ Linens was created by the Vera Cruz family to provide a new set of twin-sized bed sheets to hospice patients in need when a medical bed is delivered to their home. Since the start of the program, hundreds of sheets have been distributed in support of our patients and their families. The history is when the family realized that they were not equipped. After a hospital bed was delivered to the home of Lois Vera Cruz, her husband, Stanley, and their children realized that they did not have linens that would fit the twin-size bed. Although not a convenient time for shopping, they were able to go out and make the purchase.

After Lois passed in February 2017, the family chose to show appreciation for the care she received by helping other families who might have the same need. In addition to donating new sets of sheets, members of the family- Malinda and Valen Vera Cruz, Kathie and Josef Ludwig, and Sharon and Robert Stepp- established an endowed fund at Four Seasons Foundation to provide ongoing support for Lois’ Linens.

The community has rallied around support for Lois’ Linens. To date, nearly 300 new sets of twin sheets have been donated for patient use and more than $29,000 has been donated to support Lois’ Linens. I personally know a family that has received sheets and it was indeed a blessing to have these sheets when their lives were changing dramatically in mere days. It was a gift and one that was sorely needed when that hospital bed was delivered.

Please join me this month with a compassionate gift that will benefit many. With each comment made on my blog during the month, Chris and I will donate 50 cents to Lois’ Linens at the end of the month. I am so grateful to the Cruz family for this gift of love that truly makes a difference. As always I am so grateful to you my readers who comment often to encourage me and Comment for a Cause.
