Honoring My Mom with Comments for a Cause

12 Comments/ 501/ 0

I decided to designate 2021 as the year I honor my mom (and my dad) by making my Comments for a Cause recipients charities and organizations that my parents supported over the years. Earlier this year I chose Copeland Oaks Life Fund, Hannibal United Methodist Church and this past month we focused on giving to The Copeland Oaks Library. I found a list of charities that my mom wrote up years ago and I am going to work my way through some of those.

This past month I shared my mom’s love of books. From her list of all of the books that she had read since 1949 to her love of volunteering in the Copeland Oaks Library my mom loved her books. In her later years it was more difficult for her to read or to even find books that she enjoyed but we kept trying. She was especially fond of Richard Paul Evans and Nicholas Sparks and I do not see one of those books without thinking of her.

This month we are happy to announce that we will be donating $200 to the Copeland Oaks Library as a result of your comments on the blog. She would be so very happy to know that books were going to be purchased with that donation to be shared with the residents and staff there. Thank you for your continued support and comments.

Another place that my parents supported was what used to be called The Berea Children’s Home. This was originally an orphanage which served children in Ohio. While the name has changed to keep up with the times the outreach and the mission is still the same for this non profit which provides services for children and youth.

In 1864, the German Methodist Episcopal Church founded the German Methodist Orphan Asylum to shelter Civil War orphans. Known today as OhioGuidestone, but for many years as the Berea Children’s Home, this private, not-for-profit, charitable organization serves children and youth needing specialized therapeutic programs. It was a place that both of my parents truly believed in and supported over the years.

Please join me this month and leave comments on all my blog posts. For each comment Chris and I will donate 50 cents to OhioGuidestone in memory of my mother (with a cap of $500). Thank you for continuing to join me on the blog and for your support of our endeavors to highlight charities and organizations that can always use a little assistance. If you would like to connect with OhioGuidestone please feel free to click on any of the following links to connect with them.

This short book was one that looked like it would be a fun read. I honestly did not enjoy it all that much---it was a lot of characters bickering and while some of the writing was witty and funny it was not that kind of book that made m...
