I Am About Techied Out

4 Comments/ 1597/ 0

You know I love technology!!  I really do.  How else would I stay in touch with people and get to know new people through my blog???  But I have come to the conclusion this week that maybe there is some disease known as Tech Addiction.  I mean where does it all end??  Anyone else with me out there?  It seems like we can never get our technology settled so that it is a constant here in the Chiles household.   If we (and when I say we I really mean the husband) can add one more speaker, one more Roku, one more Apple TV it will be the death of me.  Well, maybe not but it seems that things are always in flux here with our “systems”.   If it is not tied down it is being moved.  Wait—I thought that was in the bedroom and now it is in the living room.  No, that used to be in the office and now it is in the basement!!! All in the effort to have the perfect system to view whatever we want to view!

And don’t let me get started on remotes.  You need a PhD in our household to simply watch TV.  And since I do not  hold one of those degrees and my social work degree is severely lacking in the technology realm I sometimes have a hard time.  JUST KEEP IT SIMPLE!!!  I just want to watch my Friday Night Lights!!!

I know one of my words this year was “embrace”.  I am not sure that applies to technology.   I am trying.  I really am.  But change is difficult for me.

So yesterday, thanks to our wonderful youngest son who works for Cisco, a Umi arrived.  (Can’t figure out how to put those little dots above the u but you know what I mean).   So of course it was time to hook up yet another contraption.  But this one is pretty darn awesome.  We telepresenced with him last night and it was wayyyyy better than Skype.   The camera is awesome and it was like we were in his living room.  Of course we can only use this with folks who also have the Umi and that will be limited to Aaron most likely.  Kind of cost prohibitive but it sure is a neat thing to be able to experience.

I keep hoping that we will get all this technology settled and in place soon.   I like things to be simple.  If you want simple in the technology realm do not, I repeat, do not come to my house.   It is far from simple.   I think this is my husband’s way of keeping me on my toes.  Whatever it is I am trying to embrace.  Any of you out there have similar households?? Would love to hear from you!

Yes, I can identify with that. No Roku or Apple TV here (yet), I’m sure it’s just a matter of time! My DH is a database applications engineer and we are Mac people, so you can imagine. The (let’s see if I can do this…close…) Ùmi sounds very cool!

Sometimes all this technology makes me crazy. I wish it were simpler. All we have is the HD TV, a DVD player, a VCR, cell phones and a computer that is currently in the shop hoping to be fixed. (I’m using the library one today!)

Old Girls in Low Cotton

This short book was one that looked like it would be a fun read. I honestly did not enjoy it all that much---it was a lot of characters bickering and while some of the writing was witty and funny it was not that kind of book that made m...

Another great book by John Green. I have become a huge fan of John Green since my reading of A Fault in our Stars and this book was another that did not disappoint me at all. It was a story of a child prodigy, a lot of anagrams, and a b...
