It’s Apple Picking Time

18 Comments/ 693/ 0

Our area of western North Carolina is famous for many things but one thing we have in abundance are apple orchards. Chris and I have made many treks to different ones over the years but this year we elected to go to the one that is closest to us and we absolutely loved it. We had visited before but had not gone for apple picking and it was there perfect place to go.

Jeter Mountain Farm, located at 1126 Jeter Mountain Road, Hendersonville, NC, has something for everyone. It is a working farm but also has a great reputation for being a top notch event center. Their website here shares both experiences.

We wanted to pick a few apples and it was easy to do the day we went. They have specific places you are permitted to pick and these are clearly marked. The day we went we could pick Red and Yellow Delicious as well as some McIntosh. A lot of other varieties are available for purchase in the market as well.

When you purchase a peck basket to pick you also can take the wagon ride around the farm and that was fun. Not only do they have apples to pick they also have grapes and some berry crops at different times of the year available for picking.

The latest thing that local farms are offering is U Pick flowers and of course Jeter Mountain Farms had some truly beautiful flowers still left in their flower gardens.

When you aren’t picking apples there are plenty of other things to do. Check out the Cider Barn where you can get hard cider, cider slushies and cider donuts.

A huge market and coffee shop are other must stops while here. It’s not hard to find some items that need to find their way into your car, trust me. Lots of great merchandise including clothing, apple related food items like apple butter, salsa and more is available as well as apples.

A BBQ food venue is on site, as well, for those who need more than apples. You can use the picnic tables or spread a blanket out and have a proper picnic. If you have littles along there is a perfect indoor playground that they can enjoy.

According to their website:

Jeter Mountain Farm is settled on 411 acres in the Blue Ridge Mountains and has been an active farm in Henderson County since 1813. Farming goes back 150 years in our family, and we have worked hard to create a place where your family will feel at home to build traditions and memories as well. There are activities for every age to enjoy at the farm, in addition to our u-pick orchards, filled with the peaches, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, elderberries, pumpkins, grapes and over 20 varieties of apples that we grow. Located just minutes from downtown historic Hendersonville and Brevard, and a quick trip from Asheville or Greenville, SC, we look forward to welcoming you to the farm – from our family to yours.

It really is a great place to visit and I think you will find plenty to do. It’s always good to check before you go in case of changes but currently these are their hours:

Thursdays 10a-3p

Fridays 10a-3p

Saturdays 10a-5p

Sundays 10a-5p

(Last U-Pick Wagon Leaves for Orchard at 3:30 p)

Their website is a great place to get all the information before you go so make sure you check it out here.
