Our Greatest Need

44 Comments/ 474/ 0

“I have never met a person whose greatest need was anything other than real, unconditional love. You can find it in a simple act of kindness toward someone who needs help. There is no mistaking love…it is the common fiber of life, the flame that heats our soul, energizes our spirit and supplies passion to our lives.”
Elizabeth Kübler-Ross

Isn’t that quote above amazing?

I think we all have probably felt the weight of the world on our shoulders.  What with fires, floods, hurricanes, earthquakes and other natural disasters we are left shaken to our core.

Add in the horrific events that occurred earlier this week in Las Vegas and honestly I am left scared to turn on the news.  I woke up the other morning and said to Chris ” I wonder what the horrible news will be this morning”.  Fortunately there was no new crisis that was reported but still I wonder what will happen next.

The story is told that Fred Rogers of the popular children’s television show Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood advised his viewers to “always look for the helpers” in times of crisis.   I have seen that quote repeated time and time again as our world finds its way from one tragedy to the next.

There are a lot of helpers out there in the world and this quote above by Elizabeth Kübler-Ross reminds me that in difficult times it is so important to show love, true and unconditional love, to one another.  Nothing can replace that feeling of being truly and deeply cared for.

During these difficult days I find that it is so much easier for me to bear the heartache and sadness if I myself reach out in love and compassion towards others.  A simple act of kindness can turn the tide and change the trajectory of the day.  It does not have to be anything huge.  A simple act will do.  You all do them all of the time but perhaps concentrating and being intentional in your efforts will be especially helpful during these difficult times.

Today show someone you love them.

Do a kindness.

Share some love.

Go out of your way.

Remember that this is something that Jesus modeled and we are to follow in His footsteps.

You are loved.  More than you know.

Thanks for stopping by today.  You have blessed ME with your comments and your kindness to me.
