Prayer for a Pandemic

Prayer for a Pandemic by Cameron Bellm

May we who are merely inconvenienced

remember those whose lives are at stake.

May we who have no risk factors

            remember those most vulnerable.

May we who have the luxury of working from home

remember those who must choose between preserving their health

and making their rent.

May we who have the flexibility to care for our children when their schools close

remember those who have no options.

May we who have to cancel our trips

remember those who have no safe place to go.

May we who are losing our margin money in in the tumult of the economic market

remember those who have no margin at all.

May we who settle in for a quarantine at home

remember those who have no home.

As fear grips our country, let us choose love.

During this time when we cannot physically wrap our arms around each other,

let us yet find ways to be the loving embrace of God to our neighbors.

We are well. Micah and Wendy in NYC are doing okay at this point and are very smart about how to respond during this pandemic .

Thoughtful prayer for sure. The virus is touching everyone’s life in some way. Several cases at our nurse daughter’s hospital, so our granddaughter is now living with us until this crisis is over. My best friend’s son and daughter-in-law are in self-isolation in Washington, DC because the DIL works for a senator who tested positive. Trying times for certain, but our hope is in God.

It has been fascinating to watch the reaction to the pandemic based on age. For those of us who were born during the stone age we can provide a long list of things that life has thrown our way. We understand that we have been through and we will get through this too.

I think the folks like us understand the necessities of doing the right thing to protect ourselves during this time and take it seriously. As you said we have been through other things and will make it through this as well—we just have to be smart about it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts today!

As you know my thoughts can be scary! I hope all is ok in your part of the world. I’ve been wanting to write a book since my first blog over 10 years ago. My wife wants to know what my excuse is now? Tke Care and be safe.
