Ringing in 2023 with Comments for a Cause

18 Comments/ 1649/ 0

Hello 2023! Honestly – how did we get here? I remember when 2023 seems like a millions years ago and yet here we are in January 2023. Goodness gracious.

This past month I highlighted Conserving Carolina as our Comments for a Cause and I was happy to share a little bit about what they do to help with conservation in my state of North Carolina. It really is an important thing and we are blessed to live in an area where there is so much conservation going on. We take advantage of hiking and being in nature as much as possible and it is organizations like this that help to keep our state beautiful and as natural as possible. I didn’t blog as much this month — (took last week off for Gramma and Grampa Camp) so my comments were a little bit lower than normal but Chris and I will be donating $100 to Conserving Carolina to help with their education and conservation efforts. Thanks for all of your comments during the past month.

So this coming month I decided to go with my heart. Those December commercials pulled at my heartstrings. While we have two healthy sons and a healthy grandson I realize that no everyone can say those same words. St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital is one of the best places for families who have children with illnesses that threaten their lives and this month I decided that our donation would go to support research at St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

Our mission statement

The mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. Consistent with the vision of our founder Danny Thomas, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family’s ability to pay

Why Danny Thomas opened St. Jude

More than 70 years ago, Danny Thomas was a young entertainer with a baby on the way. Work wasn’t easy to come by, and his despair grew. He turned to St. Jude Thaddeus, the patron saint of hopeless causes, and vowed:

Show me my way in life, and I will build you a shrine.

That prayer marked a pivotal moment. Soon after, he began finding work, eventually becoming one of the biggest stars of radio, film and television in his day. He was on Make Room for Daddy, later known as The Danny Thomas Show.

Danny used his fame to fulfill his vow and to change the lives of thousands of children and families. In 1962,St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital opened in front of a crowd of 9,000 in Memphis, Tenn.

We are so fortunate to have healthy children and what a gift this is to those who have diseases that threaten the lives of their children. This month please comment and know that with each comment on any post we will donate 50 cents to St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Please feel free to follow along on their social media channels and if you feel led to donate on your own you can join my fundraising campaign by clicking here. Thank you to each and every one for your contributions and comments. They are greatly appreciated.
