The results are in!!! I am so excited to report that the Comments for a Cause, Crisis Intervention Services, here in Mason City will receive a whopping $ 192.50 in donations of movie gift cards, gas cards and other needed items for their clients to use due to 385 comments on my blog, Facebook and personal emails that came through this month in support of this great organization. I am very excited as this is my highest total yet!!!! I have been doing this for 11 months now and it is so neat to see how many organizations YOU all have helped with your comments!!!
It is hard to choose each month but since my sweet Buddy is on my mind I decided that I should contribute to The Humane Society of North Iowa here in Mason City for the month of March. They are a fabulous place—I have had the pleasure of volunteering there a few times and their facilities are clean and wonderful and there is love all around for all of the animals that are there. They have tons of animals for adoption and they spend time with each dog and cat to make sure they are ready before they find their forever home. I would love to be able to give them a huge donation this next month so comment freely.
As for my Buddy update—-some of you have asked how he is doing.with the chylothorax. He had a vet visit last week here in Iowa with his local vet and more xrays were taken which revealed about what we knew before—the right side is very fluid filled around the lung and the left lung is operating at about 90%. He is on a low fat diet, (as well as sister Holly who is a little pudgy ), has lost a lot of weight and is still getting his Rutin 3 times a day. The vets are reluctant to do anything more at this point to “tap” the fluid as there is a danger of infection and damaging other areas as they try to release the fluid. Surgery is an option but with a very dismal success rate so we are going to continue monitoring him and doing what we are doing. He seems to have adapted to his limited lung capacity and is still the loving sweet kitty who loves to snuggle. As a matter of fact he must have known I was typing about him because he just jumped up on my lap to help. He still runs around., chases his sister, jumps up on his kitty tower and all the things that he used to do so I think he has accepted his lot in life and has decided that being a “fast breather” is just the way life is going to be. Of course we are still hoping that he totally beats this thing but we are taking one day at a time and just loving him now. Thanks to all who have asked about him. I am also happy to report that I am guest blogging over at One Mixed Bag while Bernie is on vacation!!! Check out my post there by clicking here!!!

Leave a commentCongrats on your month. That is exciting. And I am looking forward to the total this month. I’m a huge animal lover and I hope you raise loads for them. Thanks for the update about Buddy. I wish him the best. And my dog Miles is helping me write this now…if there are any mistakes, I blame him.
You have been a huge help with your comments!!! Glad that Miles is helping you—-I blame an awful lot of my mistakes on Buddy and Holly….
Oh my goodness I am slow, are your cats named for Buddy Holly? I had two hamsters name Chubby and Checker when I was little. They never learned the twist though.
🙂 Yep. We live in Mason City, IA where he took his last fateful flight. I had the names picked out before I had the cats..how sad is that? I love your hamsters names…..surprised you never taught them to twist!
Good-googly-moogly, Beth Ann. Comments for a cause has taken off..If it keeps up you’re going to need a loan FROM KIVA (oops, or is it KEVA? I forget)…. Anyway, happy Buddy is doing better and all appears well with you and yours.
I know—I know!!! My husband is very generously going along with this whole comments thing and we have been blessed so it is definitely time to pay it forward, so to speak. But I may have to seriously think about a paying job if the numbers keep rising!!! Well…let me ponder that a bit!!! 🙂
God Bless you both.
He is a very good man. A very good man. 🙂
You deserve each other..(in a good way)
🙂
Oh my gosh, he is a doll!! I have never heard of chylothorax, and had to look it up, I hope Buddy gets better and better each day. I love the Humane Society, whether they are here, there, or the big one that is everywhere. I am always donating to them, great cause.
He is the best kitty we have ever had and it breaks my heart that he has this awful thing but he seems happy and adjusting to his life with it. Humane Societies are awesome, aren’t they? I am trying to get the local one to jump on board with the comments!
Oh, Beth Ann, this is amazing! The best news! And I love that you have chosen the Huaman Society for March. What a great cause. Your generosity is inspiring, my friend. And I’m so happy to hear Buddy is doing well!
Hugs,
Kathy
Thanks, Kathy!!! I love the Humane Society and anything to do with animals!!! Thanks for your part in my endeavors!!!
Yea! You are awesome!
You & Buddy (and family) are still in our prayers. ~Hugs~
Thanks, McGuffy Ann!!! He is a fighter but I just want him to be rid of it, you know??? It has worried me a lot but Chris and I decided to just enjoy the moments and if we get to the point where we feel he is not having a good quality of life we will make the hard decision then. But for now–snuggles abound!
So glad, comments for a cause got a nice donations together for the crisis intervention services. I’m sure the people will appreciate it. Love that this month is for a humane society… I love our local one. That’s were we got two of our dogs. I will never buy a dog as there are so many in shelters that are waiting for their forever homes!!! Good luck. 🙂 Glad to hear Buggy is adjusting well.
Thanks so much!!! Am excited about March’s cause! They just keep getting better and better!
Congratulations friend! That is awesome. Hoping Buddy is back to par soon!! 🙂
Thanks, Paula!!! I am hoping so but know that it may not be in the cards after reading up on it. Time will tell.
My last 2 dogs have had health problems in their later years. Patch had diabetes his last 2 years & I had to give him insulin shots every day. He also developed cataracts from the diabetes & was virtually blind, so he became very clingy & would get distressed if I left him other than to go to work. Bandit, my last dog, had a heart condition & deteriorating hips, so he required some extra attention as well.
Both my dogs were the lights of my life, so I am so happy you have chosen an animal-related charity this month! I love what your’re doing, just wish I could do it too. Hope Buddy feels better soon!
You are doing great by commenting!!! There are so many ways to do things that help others without actually having money involved. Right now this is what I feel I am being called to do and it is working out—but it may not be a forever thing!!! 🙂 But for now yes!!! Sounds like your doggies were very lucky to have you in their lives. Not everyone would do what you did for them !!!! Bless you!
I am so glad to hear that Buddy is feeling better. I like cats that like to snuggle.
I think he has just adapted. I don’t think he is really better—-but time will tell.
Oh, poor buddy… he has been on my mind lately… I am glad he is hanging in there….he is a trouper like his buddy Alex!
He and Alex are two of a kind!!! I keep hoping he will totally kick this thing but I don’t think it is in the cards. We will see. For the meantime we will just love him as much as possible!
Great job, Beth Ann, I know the residents will be so blessed by your gift. Time to help out all the furry friends, now. 🙂 Love it! Thanks for the Buddy update. Off to see what you’re up to at Bernie’s.
Thanks, Patti!!!
That is awesome you got so many comments last month! Congratulations. Glad to hear Buddy is acting so normal and so glad you can enjoy his company each day. I like your choice of charities! Mine is the American Cancer Society this month to sponsor two of my blogging buddies who are doing the Relay for Life.
You picked another great cause, Karen!!! That is awesome. We supported them when Chris’s dad died–that was one of the charities that we asked donations be made to. Buddy is doing okay—I would not say he is perfect but he is adapting, I think. My dilemma now is finding a place to board him when I have to go back to Ohio. Sigh.
I always forget if the likes count also or not.
Nah..but this one did!!! Thanks!
I’m one of your newer followers. I think this may be my 2nd comment. I really love how our comments help a charity each month 🙂 Since I’m an animal lover, myself, I’m excited about your choice of charity for the month of March! I’ll certainly do my part in leaving comments 🙂 Best wishes, and congrats on the month of February!!! (Kathy)

This is so cool that you are doing this! I so love animals, and think this is so AWESOME! Thank you for doing this! I have a 13 yr old dog that is diabetic but doing well. He was diagnosed 7 yrs ago, and the vet says everytime how health he is and looks. Thanks again!

Just heard about your March initiative – congrats and good luck! I volunteer at my local Humane Society with the cats there, and it’s such a joy (and a great cause). Good on ya! All the best to you & Buddy.
Oh my goodness—how I have missed the “good on ya’s”!!! Thanks so much for stopping by–I am so glad you did!!! Thanks so much for your sweet comment and for the work that you do at your humane society. Gotta help our furry friends out!!! Thanks again!
I have come here via TBM’s blog. I hope you raise shedloads of cash.
Nice to see another happy ginger boy.
Yay!!! It was so sweet of her to do this !!! I am so glad to meet you and aren’t ginger cats the best???? Love them!!!! Thanks so much for the comment and taking the time to stop on over. Come back anytime! You are always welcome!!!
I love the idea of donating based on comments! I will have to steal that when my husband finishes school and we have money again. 🙂 Buddy is very cute, and I hope he gets better. I’ve had to deal with sick kitties before and it’s no fun. I have two wonderful cats now and hate to think about anything happening to them. One of my cats looks a bit like buddy and is a big cuddler too – I’ll give him an extra hug tonight in Buddy’s honor.
Thanks, Lindsey–and thanks for stopping by and commenting. There is just something about ginger cats!!! I love them!!! Thanks for the sweet thoughts—I am hoping he gets stronger and can beat this but all the stuff I read is pretty dismal and discouraging. So we are just enjoying him and loving him as long as we can! Thanks again for stopping by!
That is awesome that you are willing to donate to different charities for each comment you receive! And I love that you are donating to a humane society this month. I volunteer at a shelter and have worked with some others and I love to hear that others want to help out as well. How many comments have you received so far? 🙂
Thanks for coming by and commenting!!! And thanks for following me!!! Awesome!!! I can’t honestly say how many comments I have so far this month. I usually just wait till the end to count them because it gets me all messed up if I do it too early!!! 🙂
