Three Words and a Song For 2017

14 Comments/ 65/ 3

Welcome to 2017 and my version of Three Words and a Song.  I have chosen 3 words and a song to be my theme words and my song for the past 5 years .  A recap of the words I have chosen are in the collage below.  That’s a lot of focus words, isn’t it?  20162017

This past year has certainly been a year of challenges but at the same time it has been a year of incredible blessings. Family continues to be the most important thing in my life other than my faith and I have been blessed to have been able to spend much time with family.  While health issues have plagued both my mom and my brother in law I feel confident that 2017 is going to be a much better year in that regard.

A wedding in August will set the tone for the year with a great deal of anticipation and excitement and while we have to wait for 8 entire months for the marriage of our oldest son Micah to his sweet fiancee Wendy it will be a great time of planning.  We are thrilled and know that the months leading up to this will be amazing.

When I tried to come up with my 3 words for the year I had a couple that kept coming back into my head.  I think that means that those are what I need to focus on this year.  So here they are.

Vigilant– 1.keenly watchful to detect danger; wary: a vigilant sentry. 2. ever awake and alert; sleeplessly watchful.  I also think that vigilant can take on a more positive connotation and that is what I am going to focus on.  I want to be vigilant in everything—watching and ready for the unexpected and away of everything that is going on around me.  My word “be” for the past two years is similar in some ways but vigilant takes on a more active voice.  I want to be vigilant and aware of what is going on around me just a little bit more.

Surpass – 1. exceed; be greater than. 2.  do or be better than ever before.  Oh how I want to surpass everything that I did in the past year.  I want to be a better person, do more things that help others and just focus on being the best person that I can be.  I don’t want to be satisfied with just the ordinary and the mundane.  I want to surpass and go beyond in every area of my life.

Thrive –prosper; flourish.  I love this word and it is truly how I want to live my life. Flourishing in all ways, growing better and better and being able to thrive in the world that I live in. I believe that if I thrive others around me will also thrive and that is my prayer for all of my family and friends.  Thrive where you are.  Flourish in your community.  Be all that you can be.

So there you have it .  My three words for 2017.  My song for 2017 follows.  Let me know in the comments section if you choose focus words for the new year.  I would love to hear what yours are.

Thanks, Virginia! I love Casting Crowns as well. I seem to alternate between secular and religious songs and this one just kind of spoke to me right now. I think we all need to be courageous, don’t you?

Excellent words and song. I’ve never picked a word to focus on for a year….but one from your collage struck me immediately. Stretch. I’ll roll that around in my mind a bit and see how it might fit into my life.

Hello Beth Ann and friends! thanks for sharing your words and song! I need your help finding the right word for 2017. The best I can come up with is “win-win” I want to focus on helping myself, and others find the best way to live, or solve a problem, without getting stuck in a dichotomy, that the answer can only be “this” or “that”. I want to aim for the “win-win”. I am not talking about compromising with morals or values- but finding positive and pragmatic ways to live and thrive without getting stuck at “this is the only way to do it.” I didn’t want to pick “compromise” as a word- sounded too wishy-washy So, for now, I am going to go with “win-win” unless anyone can come up with a better word. Here’s a dumb example of what I mean- “I want a dog.” “No dogs in our house!” Ok- but could we play with the neighbor’s dog, walk a dog, help out at a rescue center, get a hermit crab…

“Completion” is my word for the year and one definition I read was conclusion/fulfillment. I want to bring certain things to a conclusion and find fulfillment.

I love the word “thrive”!!! Fantastic choice. I am willing to bet many of us simple “live” — which some days might be the best you can manage. But to THRIVE?!! I think that is the inheritance we were intended to have. Great song – they’re so good.

As always, great focus word choices. Love the song, too.

I choose “Eye of the Storm” by Ryan Stevenson as my theme song. It’s so fitting for my life right now and the past several years.

I’m keeping my focus word of hope for the third year.

Keep- me updated on wedding plans. Such an exciting time in your family. Delight in every planning minutes.

I love that you chose the word “thrive.” It’s making me think a lot. The phrase “Do the best you can with what you’ve got” come stop mind a lot and thrive captures that.
