Travel From Your Couch – Krka National Park, Croatia

9 Comments/ 64/ 1

Another in my series of Travel from Your Couch is featured today on the blog. This one combines an unforgettable trip, a wedding and the most spectacular waterfall I have ever seen. Enjoy.

One of our most spectacular trips has been to Croatia. We went there in August 2017 for Micah and Wendy’s wedding and it remains one of the best trips we have taken. While we were there we were able to do some sightseeing and today’s waterfall feature is located at Krka National Park in Croatia.  Yes, my Mr. Diamond found me a waterfall on our trip to Croatia and what a waterfall it is.  My pictures can not do it justice.

I took a lot of pictures from a lot of different locations so bear with me.

You can read all about Krka National Park by clicking here  and I kindly selected the English version of the website for you to check out instead of the Croatian.  I figure most of my readers would understand that version better.

There was swimming allowed in the water below the falls and since it was a hot day there were a lot of people taking advantage of that.

I had a little trouble figuring out this sign.  It looked like a lot of “don’ts” to me.

A few facts are included about the National Park that  I gleaned from the brochure we received upon entry.

In 1985 an area of 109 kilometers of the Krka River and basin was proclaimed The Krka National Park.

Kirk National Park lies within Sibenik-Krin county and includes the Krka River.

Travertine, a limestone that has settled out of the water, is a common appearance all over the park.

The Skradinske buk is the longest and most commonly visited waterfall on the Krka River.   The waterfalls were created by travertine barriers, islands and lakes.

The remnants of the Krka Hydropower Plant are also located at the Skradinski bur.  It became operations in 1895 just days after Tesla’s hydroelectric plant at Niagara Falls.

We hiked down to the falls and opted for the return bus ride back to the top.  I think we were pretty smart to do it that way.

Waterfalls are pretty amazing and I have to admit that this one is probably the most impressive one I have ever visited.  The beauty of the park and hike sealed the day for us and even though we kept saying what we would remember was how hot we were those memories have faded a bit and the beauty of Skradinske buk is what we remember.

You would love it! It is stunningly beautiful and the Adriatic Sea is such a beautiful color. I would love to go back when it isn’t quite so hot. 🙂
