What A Difference a Few Days Can Make

16 Comments/ 401/ 1

We had a little scare with our new kitty Maksim this weekend. Friday morning when I got him out of his “room” I kept saying to Chris –he isn’t acting right. Later when I went to clean his litter box I noticed it was not the normal and that was one thing we were cautioned about. As the morning went on I decided to call the vet and they agreed with a little guy I needed to bring him in. Our vet had surgeries all day but was going to check on him and we went in at 4:30 to talk to her. Long story but he did not eat all day and was just a sad kitten. Very sad.

The beginning of not feeling well.

All his tests came back showing nothing abnormal and his X-rays showed a little gas (how embarrassing) but no obstruction which is what we worried about since we went through a string episode with Buddy as a kitten. Our vet advised us to keep trying to get him to eat and gave him some fluids and antibiotics and other goodies to get him going.

Maksim’s xray. Kittens have so little fat it is difficult to get good pictures. I am sure he loved being held down for these.

Saturday morning came and he was no better. I couldn’t get him to eat anything or drink and he was just listless. It was stressing me out big time. A trip to the emergency vet in Asheville, more X-rays and basically the same evaluation from the vet that they could only see gas in his tummy and that he probably had a tummy ache but no obstruction. She basically did the same thing for him that our local vet did and sent us home with the hope that it was going to resolve itself.

Looking so sad at the Emergency Vet clinic.

Let me tell you – I am pretty good with a syringe and getting things in cat mouths after Buddy and his Chylothorax issue so I forced water and a slurry of food down him as often as I could. Sunday afternoon he finally started eating a little bit on his own and by Monday the difference was remarkable. By the time you read this hopefully he will be back to full kitten mode harassing Holly and racing around.

Finally eating up a storm again which makes us so happy.

It’s just like when you have children. You just want them to feel better when they are sick and they can’t tell you what is wrong. Pets are no different. It was a very long weekend but I feel like we are on the other side of this thankfully. Huge thanks to all my friends on Facebook and Instagram who offered up love and support and prayers for him. We are all feeling so much better.

My bulky bookmark. 🙂

Life is certainly interesting in our house now with this kitten. I am so grateful he is back to feeling better and being himself again. Don’t forget to leave me a comment for our Comments for a Cause – Shadowbrook Farm.

Old Girls in Low Cotton

This short book was one that looked like it would be a fun read. I honestly did not enjoy it all that much---it was a lot of characters bickering and while some of the writing was witty and funny it was not that kind of book that made m...
