Window Walk at Transylvania County Library

6 Comments/ 75/ 0

Transylvania County Library in Brevard, NC has always been a fabulous place but during the past year they have stepped up in a lot of great ways to help locals. Books and other resources are available and there are always friendly librarians to help with whatever the patron needs. Currently they are also serving as home base for a Covid – 19 call center as well as being a site for vaccine administration. I have been very impressed with their dedication and creativity during the pandemic.

When Chris and I were walking our little town the other week we stopped by the library to view the Window Walk that they have. The idea is a pretty simple one. They feature a different book a month and display the pages on the book on the front windows of the library – just at the perfect height for children to read and follow along.

While it is difficult to take pictures of the windows without getting myself or a lot of reflections you can get the idea from my amateur pictures.

The featured book this month is First Snow by Nancy Viau and illustrated by Talitha Shipman.

We have all had to adjust a bit in the past year. The library is a perfect example of how a great adjustment (or pivot as my husband says) can be made to meet the changing situation.

Have you seen any great ideas this week that show how a business or service has had to change during the pandemic? I would love to hear about it so leave me a comment and Comment for a Cause.

What an amazing idea/pivot. It’s so great to see how people have adjusted and make the most of this situation.

Now, that’s a great idea. We have a lovely restaurant that is located in an old historical building downtown in my hometown. The owners restored the building back to its former life as a grand, early1900’s home of a state senator and a couple of years ago opened as a restaurant and event venue. As you can imagine, the repeated lockdowns were like death to it. But they creatively came up with a solution. Each evening they offered one entrée only for dinners and those meals were only available during certain dinner hours for pick-up. They figured out a way to direct traffic through alleyways to arrive at the back door of the building where they distributed meals to your car. Drive-up service. The public supported them immensely. Heartwarming to see people respond so well to keep them in business and their employees working! You can see this lovely place here: https://themeredithinn.com/

Unfortunately our libraries have been closed for a while. As far I know they haven’t done any special projects because of the virus. I love what yours had done. Thinking of other. I can just picture you and Chris taking your grandson there. Good & special times coming.

This reminds me of the Story Walk throughout downtown Faribault.

I’m impressed by all your library is doing. Ours has been closed most of 11 months except for reopening recently now for by-appointment-only browsing. So…we head up to the Northfield Library, which has been open since May.
