You May Have To Wait in Line—I’m Signing Autographs These Days

69 Comments/ 3552/ 0

I know you all think that I am just a 50 something woman from the Midwest who spends her time collecting teapots and spoiling her cats.  I am about to crush those images for you so be prepared.

I figured out long ago that I may not be cut out for fame and fortune and I am okay with that.  I like my life.  Scratch that.  I love my life.  All of it. All the bits and pieces. All the messiness of it sometimes is what makes my life my life.

But I am like many who get dazzled by celebrity status and wonder “what if” fame knocked on my door?  I thought it had one day when I got a new follower on Twitter.

rihanna

Oh I was excited.  I sent a text to both of my sons saying that Rihanna was now my Twitter follower.  I had arrived!!!!  Look—it says she follows me!!!!  Who knew that a superstar like Rihanna would know about little old me.

And then Aaron burst my bubble and said “Mom—that is not a verified account.  It is not the “real” Rihanna.”  Way to go, Aaron. Rain on my parade.  Burst my bubble, Crush my dreams.

So I decided to just be happy being little old me and continue living my life like I always have. But life is funny and because of a meeting with a wonderful man at a Social Media Breakfast several months ago I now have a great fun experience which undoubtedly will lead to fortune and fame.

I met Bill Schickel who is the station manager of a local radio station--KCMR.  Bill started reading my blog and liked what I rambled on and on about, I guess, and asked me to consider being a small part of their radio family.  I met with the delightful and lovely Cynthia Tompkins and the rest is history.  On Tuesday mornings you will find me joining her for a 5 minute (give or take) segment on her Bright Sounds   show chatting about what is on my blog.  The main problem is keeping it to 5 minutes.  I have a lot to say.

bethannandcynthiaSo if you ever want to hear what my voice actually sounds like feel free to tune in on Tuesday mornings.  I usually go on around 8:30ish a.m. (Central time)  and KCMR is located at 97.9 FM and can also be streamed online by going to their website here.  It has been a fun thing to do and I am grateful to Bill and Cynthia for welcoming me and including me in their family.

KCMR has also moved into a wonderful facility and will be celebrating with a Grand Opening on May 16th beginning at 2 pm at their studios at 316 N Federal Ave in Mason City.  They would love to have you stop in if you are in the area to help celebrate!

Old Girls in Low Cotton

This short book was one that looked like it would be a fun read. I honestly did not enjoy it all that much---it was a lot of characters bickering and while some of the writing was witty and funny it was not that kind of book that made m...

Another great book by John Green. I have become a huge fan of John Green since my reading of A Fault in our Stars and this book was another that did not disappoint me at all. It was a story of a child prodigy, a lot of anagrams, and a b...
