Greenville, South Carolina is one of our favorite places to visit. It is a short hour drive down the mountain to the downtown area and the Peace Center where we have visited often for concerts and shows. The downtown area is amazing with block after block of intriguing specialty shops and restaurants.
On one of our first visits to Greenville allowed us to explore the Falls Park area in the middle of the downtown. It is an amazing little oasis that the city has developed into a really wonderful area. I wrote a post that you can read here.
Our visit this past week was specifically to go to a concert which featured the beloved Béla Fleck on banjo, Zakir Hussain on tabla, Edgar Meyer on double bass and special guest Rakesh Chaurasia on bansuri (Indian flute). To say this was a concert of epic proportions would be an understatement. I never in my life would have thought to have had all of those unique instruments playing together. These 4 played together and made such beautiful music that the almost filled to capacity Peace Center was moved to standing ovations. I felt so in awe of these musicians. I am pretty sure there will be an album coming out of this tour and it would definitely be one that would be a great addition to any collection.

A no photography rule applies to events at the Peace Center but you get the idea –we had pretty great seats.
Of course we had to eat while we were in town, right? An early dinner had to be scheduled due to the concert time and we were basically the first seated at Husk. Located in the historic west end of Greenville it is an easy walk to and from the Peace Center and many of the hotels.

The interior of Husk is inviting and roomy including a spacious upstairs seating area.
We definitely dined in style with our dinner that included pork belly, swordfish, catfish and decadent deserts. We also chose to share a wine flight which was kind of a fun way to taste some pretty amazing offerings from an Oregon winery. Sharing the flight was one of the best ideas we had all evening. There is no way I could have handled tasting 6 wines all on my own even if they were not full portions.
The evening was wonderful and waking up to the leaf blowing outside the hotel at 6 am (yawn) allowed me to see this view.
We have found a place that we love to visit in Greenville. There is just so much to explore and we often will spend the night so we can extend the fun just a little bit longer. After all we had to get crepes in the morning at another favorite location Crêpe du Jour.

Leave a commentI have many favourite cities I enjoy visiting. I guess Barcelona here in Spain is the one that came to mind first when you asked. Every time I visit I see different things and learn something new. It is so vibrant with so many interesting sections that each tell a story. And the work of the amazing Antoni Gaudi is everywhere you look.
I must make a trip to Barcelona. On my bucket list!
Fat pancakes? Don’t put up with that crepe.
Hahahhahahah!
What an amazing get-away. Glad you had this time with Chris.
Sounds like so much fun. That crepe looks delicious. 🙂
We love the mountains and go as often as we can. We try difference areas and find such amazing places. Greenville looks and sounds wonderful.
I’m jealous you got to dine at Husk! Greenville looks like such a fun place to explore.
Greenville is a nice place. Our oldest daughter has friends who live there that are originally from our neck of the woods. They love Greenville.
Wytheville, Virginia, is a great place for low-budget road trips: parks and trails, bargain stores, decent cheap motels and places where you can sleep in your car in peace. My husband used to stop there for an early-early-morning nap when we drove to Gate City at night, but then we’d end up staying in Wytheville half the next day.
I think most of the towns within a 6-hour drive from Washington are very visitor-friendly actually. Have no clear favorite. Spent the Gulf War in Pittsburgh and loved the place, but that was 1991.
Wytheville is a very familiar place to me and we have stayed there many times. WE also used to live outside of Pittsburgh and I grew to love the area there as well. Miss their steak salads. 🙂
