A Trip to the Big Apple – Apple Picking at Barton Orchards

30 Comments/ 588/ 1

A trip to New York City is always exciting for me.  Visiting our son and daughter in law is at the top of my list of favorite things.  I should definitely add it to my list of things that make me happy that I wrote about in yesterday’s post.   We usually make one or two trips to NYC a year and it never disappoints.

Micah and Wendy lead very busy and full lives and it is always fun to see what they have been up to.  Chris and I are happy to just be with them when we visit but there is always so much to do that we try to find a nice balance so we don’t feel like all we did was run around.  This trip was perfect for that.

Micah recently took a new job in New Jersey so that meant he needed to buy a car.  When one of his friends invited them to their annual apple picking trip outside the city to Barton Orchards in Poughquag, NY and told us we could tag along we were thrilled.  Having a car meant it was easier – no car rental – and we were on our way.

Of course this meant our grand puppy Penny could go along and she was more excited than us.  Road trips with Penny are fun and she is a great little traveler.  If there is one thing I have learned EVERYONE loves a Corgi.  I do mean everyone.

Barton Orchards has it all.  It is a huge place with something for everyone.

We did pick a few apples but we also took in the dog park, walked around the massive farm, visited the animals and some of the  group might have even sampled a bit of the liquid refreshment at the Tap Room.

Our group had 4 dogs.  It was hysterical seeing them in the orchard and especially in the dog park.  Of course our favorite by far is Penny but the other 3 were pretty darn sweet.

Trying to get a picture with the 4 was fun.

Did I mention animals?  I didn’t get to spend my usual time in the petting zoo area but you get the idea.  Guess who was my favorite?

There is an art to apple picking and Micah told me that we never took him apple picking growing up.  I find that difficult to believe but I am sure he is correct that we deprived him of this experience.  The orchard was a fun place to explore and Penny loved it.

There was a lot to do at Barton Orchards and we loved spending our morning there.

Of course there had to be a little bit of drama for the day.  Penny discovered some horse poop and rolled in it before anyone saw what she was doing.  She was pretty much covered on one side and her face.  But since she is such a lady Chris called her Pennypeaux.

Bath time for Penny while Sunny looks on.

A typical trip to NYC does not include apple picking but I am thrilled we were able to spend such a lovely day with Micah and Wendy and some of their friends doing some really fun things.
