My siblings and I keep a group text chain going and although we don’t text each other daily (my sister and I do) we do use it to touch base with one another very frequently. When my mom was alive our conversations almost always revolved around her and her care. These days the texts are about travel, fishing pictures, upcoming sibling trip and things that make us think of one another. My oldest brother texted this picture earlier this week.
My brother and sister in law like to go to thrift stores and he quite often texts pictures of something that is from our childhood. This cookbook prompted more texts and pictures.
My sister immediately texted these.
Not to be outdone, I quickly sent these two pictures.
Apparently it was the traditional ninth birthday present from my parents but neither of my brothers got it. Guess it was just for the girls. Funny story- in high school when my older siblings were students there was a test that could be taken and the highest score on this particular test received the Betty Crocker award. My sister won it and my oldest brother did as well and he did it without even having this as his ninth birthday gift. Smile.
I love memories like this. Sharing things with my siblings makes me happy and I am so grateful for texts like this that bring a smile to our of our faces with a memory from years gone by. Have you been reminded of something from your past this week? I would love to hear all about it so leave me a comment and Comment for a Cause for National Parks and Recreation Association.

Leave a commentI really remember the cookbook cover that you received. Really neat that these cookbooks are a special connection for you and your Sibbleberries.
I had a summer food memory. It’s a very simple sliced cucumbers with sliced onion and mayo, salt, and pepper. I was not a big fan of it but this year the cucumber was not bitter . But, it wasnt a cucumber from my garden so that was disappointing.
So fun! I have a few children’s cookbooks that I received as gifts when I was younger and now will need to pull them out. 💕
It’s fun to look at them!
How wonderful that you have such a close relationship with your siblings. Mine, not so much anymore, unfortunately. Cookbooks do have a way of bringing back memories. Like the animal cut-out cake book Mom used to shape our animal birthday cakes.
Yes! We have shared that we had that same cake book and I love that we share that.
We are so spread out with me in Spain, one brother in Thailand and one in Calgary, Alberta so we do send messages back and forth. Often with jokes or family news. It’s important to keep that closeness even if miles separate us. I love the cookbook story!
How fun!
That’s pretty cool, both that you keep a chat going and the 9th grade cookbooks. I have a brief chat with my sister most mornings, mostly about Wordle, and we do both have the same old coolbook, mom must have given it to us. I think my brothers might have the cookbook too but my sister and my cookbooks show much more wear than theirs do! 🙂
A group text line is a great ideal. What fun when a childhood memory pops up. What treasures those children’s cookbooks are.
