Girl Power

7 Comments/ 162/ 0

It seems that I am surrounded by Girl Power these days. Our book club discussed Lessons in Chemistry this week by Bonnie Garmus. It’s a book about a strong female protagonist who has to fight her way in a male dominated world. It was actually recommended to me by my friend and author Jean from JenaBooks. The story is a really good one and we ended up having a great discussion. Can I just say I love my book club group? It is a wonderful mix of truly incredible women and I always come away from book club feeling uplifted and enlightened.

To celebrate our anniversary Chris and I went to Greenville, South Carolina and celebrated with a lovely dinner and show. We dined at Pomegranate on Main, a lovely Persian restaurant, before we went to the show and it is always such a fun to discover a new restaurant. Every time we visit Greenville we try a new to us one and have not been disappointed.

The play we saw at the Peace Center was “Six” – a musical about the six wives of Henry VIII. I loved it. I had started listening to the music ahead of time and read up on it so I knew a little bit about it and was glad I had done that ahead of time.

The performances were amazing and the theme was definitely Girl Power which was fun and it made a history come to life. I think that is the great thing about some of the musicals we have seen. While there is an artistic license to the production – there are factual parts that help to keep history alive. I would encourage anyone to go see if they get a chance. It is a bit cheeky and saucy in parts but just plain fun.

We ended our little anniversary trip with breakfast at our always favorite crepe place Bonjour on Main. We always stop here when we are in Greenville for either breakfast or lunch and absolutely love the decor and the food. We highly recommend it if you are in the area.

How wonderful is it that we were able to celebrate number 41 with a quick overnight trip including a great show and some great food? Lucky me!

Hope your Thursday is filled with happiness and love. See you back here tomorrow.

Oh wow, thank you so much for mentioning me! I really did enjoy “Lessons in Chemistry”. Still at the top of my favorites. I have to say, the real heroes of the book to me now, are the dog and the neighbor from across the street.

Happy Anniversary! I would love “Six”. I’ve been reading a lot of historical fiction from that time in history.

    Love your food pix!

I am staying home and being cautious. Girl power got me into trouble dragging that mattress up the stairs. Didn’t bother me at the time. Ugh

Loved, loved, loved Lessons in Chemistry and cannot wait for the show to come out on Apple TV in October. They cast Brie Larson as Elizabeth and I think it’s a fantastic choice!!!
And Six, OMG, Ally and I have seen it twice. Once on Broadway and once at our local theater for the tour. So good and fun!!!

It may have been a short anniversary trip but filled with wonderful things to do. What precious memories.
