Do You Judge a Book By The Cover?

7 Comments/ 81/ 0

One of my volunteer jobs is helping to collect and price books for our annual AAUW (American Association of University Women) Used Book Sale. We have a great space now called The Book Nook where we can collect, sort, price and store our books until the June sale. This year we have made a larger emphasis on online sales at our eBay shop ManyBooksLittleTime Check it out –there are some pretty interesting books listed there.

My category to price is History and Current Events and Political. If you know me well you know that I am not tempted one bit to take any of these books home for myself so that is probably a great category for me to help with. I do manage to browse some of the other categories as I work so there is that temptation.

I love seeing the covers of books that pop up here and there and wonder if you are like me and are drawn in by the cover.

This cookbook caught. my eye.

I am sure this one had an interesting story as to why it chose this for a title.

This one would not match up on a bookshelf but what a fun book, right?

These are just three examples but you can imagine there are plenty of great books that pass through our hands. The more interesting the cover the more attention I pay. I guess that is human nature and yes–I do judge a book by its cover but try to not do the same with people.

Have you ever run across a book cover that just left you wondering why that author chose it? I would love to hear about it in the comments so don’t forget to Comment for a Cause for Ukranian Red Cross.

I did used to judge books by their covers, back when I actually went to the library and wandered the shelves. I haven’t read a real book in so long I hardly remember what that feels like 🙁

Such unusual covers! And apparently these books were originally bought by someone? Maybe given as a funny gift? Thanks for the smiles!

It is so important to pick the right cover for a book as it is what makes most people pick it up. The Cover can make a difference to ma as well when shopping for a book, although the blurb on the back makes a difference too. These are quite amusing. Don´t buy too many books, leave some for others. xo

Yes, I do that when I choose books at the library, I do think it’s important to use an appropriate book cover that tells just a smidgen of the story or at least intrigues the reader to pick up the book.

I do sometimes base my choices on the cover. But I also base choices on the inside summaries. And if a book I’ve chosen doesn’t hold my interest a few chapters in, I stop reading. There are too many books to waste my time on ones that don’t hold my interest.

Book covers can be very interesting and lead you to a good book sometimes.
