We have a sweet doe who is a frequent visitor to our backyard. She is almost always by herself even though there is a herd of 8 or so that roam through our neighborhood at various times. She has a bum leg. It makes me sad. I think the other deer make fun of her and don’t let her play in their (rein)deer games. So I can not get too upset when she comes to eat out of my birdfeeders. This particular evening she actually let me get fairly close to her as I went out and sat on the deck probably 15 feet away from her. I hope she makes it. She has kind eyes.

Leave a commentAww, I love your pictures of the deer. The poor thing really does have a leg problem, doesn’t she?, Beware, though, she’ll be nibbling on those shrubs in the background next!
Thanks!! Those are my neighbor’s bushes!!! I use Deer Out on my plants and they seem to ignore them which makes me happy. Just go to the bird feeders!!! 🙂
amazing shot of her at the bird feeder! *le sigh* I miss the country. we got a flock, herd, squabble???? of wild turkeys that roam our neighbourhood, but they are mostly a nuisance.
We have had a lone turkey every once in awhile but I usually see Phil the Pheasant, Bun Bun and Doe Re Me the most. And yes…I name them.
I was just going to ask if she’s eating your plants. But then I saw your comment response. How exciting to be able to photograph a deer this close up.
I just sat on the edge of the deck this time to take her pic and she was happily munching away and even though she saw me I guess she knew I wasn’t going to harm her. Now some of the other folks in the neighborhood are probably not thrilled she eats out of my birdfeeders and tromps through their yards but that is their problem. 🙂
It is the “Rudloph Syndrome” that makes the others shun her… I think maybe she has gout, from eating rich foods, like bird seed with cayenne pepper..lol
Hey now–I only offer gourmet food here at the Chiles establishment! She had this condition before she stopped by to dine!!! 🙂
I’m sorry, I must have been “deeranged” to even think your food may have caused her(d) condition.
Please do not take offense to the following:
What is the difference between “Beer Nuts” and “Deer Nuts”?
Beer Nuts are $1.99 but Deer Nuts are always under a buck…lol (please)
I cannot believe how hard I laughed at that joke…….I must be deeranged too!!! 🙂
An oldie but a goodie.. glad you liked it..
I remember the first time I saw a deer eat out of our bird feeder. I was amazed! I never knew they would do such a thing.
The poor deer. I wonder if it is a tumor of some sort. I am glad she has an easy access to goodies through your feeder. You’re a nice neighbor to allow her to visit and eat.
The pictures are lovely. I walked upon a young buck and his doe this morning. I never tire of seeing deer in our neighborhood.
Aw….I would have loved to see the buck and his sweetie!!! I think it looks like a tumor or maybe she got hit by a car??? Who knows? She seems to get around relatively well but definitely favors it and has adapted to running with a bum leg. 🙁
Awww, she is beautiful. We have one that we feed through the winter with her brother because she had a broken leg. Her brother defended her from the other deer and we feed her and she made it through and still comes around. She is very friendly and lets us get with in a couple yards of her before she will walk away. This year I planted carrots and told her she could have some but not all of them, so far she is listening well. 😉 Her brother had since grown up and moved on, he still visits but not as often as his sister. I hope she gets better, she will remember your kindness.
Aw..you are so sweet to plant carrots for her!!! I love this little one and just hope she makes it but thanks to my feeders I think she will! :0
I have not seen our deer lately. Maybe she found someone who had better bird feed.
Hubby sez….maybe she has an infected scent gland….just a guess. You are taking good care of her by letting her feed at the Chiles Gourmet Birdseed Diner!
I hope, she makes it too. It’s amazing how close you got to her. Wonderful pictures.
She was back last night munching away!
Yeh. I don’t know what that is. It looks similar to what is going on with “our” deer. I haven’t seen her in a while. I hope she is okay. Let me know if you get it diagnosed by someone.
Someone suggested it was an infected scent gland but I think it looks more like an injury or birth defect….
She’s so pretty. I’m glad she found you.
