I love mottos. There are some really fabulous mottos out there for different things. Some common ones include:
When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.
The way to get started is to stop talking and start doing.
Dreams come true.
Hope for the best but prepare for the worst.
Don’t be perfect. Be you. ( I could have used this one as a teenager.)
If your dreams don’t scare you, they aren’t big enough.
The list goes on and on. Chris and I spent a leisurely day last week exploring some parts of South Carolina. It is part of our “make every day count” campaign that we have put into place in 2023. We are definitely not sitting around doing nothing and our calendars show that. It’s a good thing to be able to do this while we can.
We visited the South Carolina Botanical Gardens which are on the grounds of Clemson University. We stopped in the visitor’s center to get a map and a feel for the place and saw this quote on the mantel.

Thankfully for non Latin speakers/readers like me they had a note as to what it meant.
Simply: While I breathe I hope.

I love South Carolina’s state motto and am fully onboard with embracing that as my own motto. I think it is a pretty great way to live life.
It made me think about how we all have mottos that we live by. I would love to hear what your personal motto is if you have one. Leave a commentI don’t know that I actually have a motto that I love by, but one of my favorite quotes is “Bloom where you’re planted”.Love your plan to make every day count!
It is Well with my soul.
“When peace like a river attendeth my way
When sorrows like sea billows roll
Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say
It is well, it is well with soul.”
-Horacio Spafford
YES!
If you can dream it, you can do it! (I think Walt Disney said something like that) I love the ones you listed as well.
I like the lyrics from a song.
Nothing is going to slow me down I have to keep on moving on.
Perfect words!!!!
I don’t have a motto, but you know how much I love the word hope. And to know it’s in your state motto, that is so lovely.
Well it’s South Carolina’s but close! I need to find out what ours is now.
Do unto others as you would have done unto you. There is so many good quotes it is hard to get pick one, but this is truly one I try to live by.
Whatever you are, be a good one.
Perfect!
My motto has been for many years since I first heard the song, if you get the choice to sit it out or dance, I hope you dance. I love this and now though I rarely dance, it resonates with me and the way I choose to spend the rest of my ,ife.
Perfect motto! Thanks for sharing!
