Happy National Umbrella Day

16 Comments/ 874/ 1

You know I love to celebrate the special days of the month and today is none other than National Umbrella Day. I would have thought it would have been celebrated in April due to the whole April showers idea but nope- it is today, February 10th.

So why do we celebrate umbrella day? Just think about where we would be without umbrellas.

Wet. Very wet.

Umbrellas are great for keeping rain off of us and also great at keeping the sun at bay at the beach. No one wants to get a nasty burn because they spent time in the sun when they could have had the help of an umbrella.

I found out a few things about the umbrella from the Days of the Year website. The Gaelic word scath fearthainne is the word for umbrella. Don’t ask me to pronounce it because I can’t. It actually means rain shadow. How neat is that?

I have a lot of umbrellas. I have a llama umbrella but my favorite is my smiley face umbrella.

Umbrellas are one of those things that you often wish you had when a surprise storm pops up. I always have one in my car but I don’t always carry it with me when I am out and about and sometimes get caught with a pop up shower and a useless umbrella in the car situation. Ah well. —good thing I won’t melt, right?

So today let’s be thankful for umbrellas and make sure we all have back up umbrellas where we need them. I found this fun video of scenes that depict Dancing in the Rain which seems very appropriate today. Take a watch and leave me a message and tell me what your favorite scene or memory of an umbrella is. No umbrellas required for this one.
