How Far Would You Go?

27 Comments/ 2727/ 0

My husband is always on the lookout for great things for me to blog about.  That is how the article below came to my attention.  Now mind you—–I did not write it and take no credit for it but I want my faithful readers to be informed about all things so here you go—complete with the picture taken from the website ChinaSmack. (author is Fauna with original article being posted on NetEase in Chinese)

Caretaker licks monkey’s butt for an hour to help it defecate

Yesterday, Wuhan Zoo Monkey caretaker Zhang Bangsheng unbelievably used his tongue to lick a small monkey’s butt!

50-year-old Zhang Bangsheng used warm water to clean a small Francois’ Leaf Monkey’s buttocks, then began using his mouth to lick it, not stopping for over an hour, until the little monkey defecated a single peanut. Only after the peanut was defecated did Zhang Bangsheng laugh with satisfaction.

As it is understood, this small Francois’ langur is only 3 months old, and is the first Francois’ Leaf Monkey to be born in nearly 10 years at this animal park. The Francois’ langur is a rare primate from Guangxi and Guizhou and is amongst the nation’s most protected animals. Because it is so precious, the zoo gave it to model worker and high-level expert Zhang Bangsheng to care for and raise.

On the first day of the “May 1st” short holiday, Zhang Bangsheng let the small Francois langur enter the monkey exhibit for the first time to meet visitors so it can see more of the world. The next day, Old Zhang discovered that the little monkey had indigestion and difficulty defecating, and immediately became worried. Seeing peanut shells on the ground, Old Zhang immediately understood that visitors had definitely tossed peanuts to the small monkey, and the toothless monkey swallowed the peanut whole. If it does not quickly defecate it, it would endanger the little monkey’s life.

Because the monkey is too small, it wasn’t suitable to use medicine to let it defecate. The only way was to lick its butt, to prompt it to defecate the peanut, and so the scene at the start of this article occurred.

You are welcome. At least he cleaned it first…..  Chris told me he WOULD NOT do this for an animal or it is doubtful for any living creature no matter how much he loved it.  How about you? Thoughts?

I’m trying to determine if this is for real…are you playing a joke on us 🙂 I really don’t know how far I would go. I can’t even garden since I hate getting my hands dirty. Some people are way better and caring than me, and I think I’m sorta nice. Seriously, are you pulling our legs with this one?

You would think a warm rag might do the same trick. Like Chris, I too have my limits.

Yikes. I don’t know. I am thinking, of course, about my children as I write this answer. And I guess I could do it for one of them, but talk about a mind over matter experience….. I think that I am going to feel a little horrified about this all day!! Love you!

Heheheheheh! Chris was aghast that I had posted it but hey—–it is all for the sake of education. I mean–did YOU know that was what you had to do to “stimulate” monkey digestion????

No, but did you know about “reverse digestive stimulation”(RDS) in humans before you posted it? Lessons learned all around I’d say.

Gross. I’m with your hubby on this one; couldn’t do it. A warm, wet cloth should have produced the same results.

I’m with Christine. Surely a warm, damp rag would have accomplished the same thing. I’ve done a lot for my dogs, but I don’t know if I’d do that! Yikes! Thank God you’ve kept me informed!

Ok. Gross. No, I would not lick any animal’s butt to help it go poop. I get shivers just thinking about this. Glad the little dude is okay though.

His concern for the animal’s well being is appreciable, though i wonder if it was compassion or because it is amongst the most fiercely protected species.
i love animals, yes… but i’m not too sure if i’d lick an monkey’s butt. I’d definitely want to help him in some other way though.

You might be right that his care was because it was such a protected animal but I am pretty sure “I” wouldn’t do that!! :-). Thanks for stopping by!!!

Since this guy was such an expert on these little monkeys, maybe he knew this is what the monkey’s mother would do to help the baby if it was sick like this & so he imitated the mother. Can’t say I would want to do this even if I loved the monkey!

I am upset about the people throwing peanuts into its enclosure. I’m glad this poor little monkey has such a wonderful caretaker who goes the extra mile. Don’t think I would go that far myself, but might if my cats or dogs life depended on it. In that case, I wouldn’t think twice about it. I wonder if the wet rag would really have the same effect. This is very interesting to me.
