It was a very sad day in my household today. There is a soldier down in my yard. And by soldier I mean my Wild Bill’s Squirrel Zapping birdfeeder. If you missed the original post when I shared with great joy my new wonderful technological advance in combat—er—feeding birds click right here and you can read and see pictures of it in all the glory that it had. I will wait right here for you to come back.
I woke up to see the devastation. The destruction. The sadness of it all washed over me.
The culprit? My beloved deer. Sigh. I love them but somehow they managed to defile the one feeder that was fairly deer and squirrel proof. To the point that this feeder is now out of commission for the rest of the winter and most likely the rest of life. The design is a bit flawed as the pole adapter is a plastic piece that just can not hold the weight and most likely the raging winds that we have here in Iowa.
Of course I still have feeders but none as grandiose as this one. It makes me very sad. I sat it up the night of the demise as the wires were still connected that Chris installed to stabilize it and I did not have any wire cutters with me to take them off. That night we had 7 deer who feasted on the remnants, knocking it around the area as much as the wires would allow until it was empty. I imagine they might have a tummy ache today. And as much as I love them I am thinking it might be justified.
